USA reaction to World Cup success so far?
Hi folks, how has success of the USA national team been celebrated in the states this World Cup? has the game been given its proper status for once?

I came in here to look for somewhere to say that I actually quite like their "I believe that we will win" chant, so this thread will do
Assuming they invented it, it's quite catchy and it's good to see them inventing their own chants. I also want to see them do well. A lot of people have got a snotty (snooty?) attitude about the USA and soccer but the players and real fans are no less passionate than anybody else. And we all know that if it ever takes off properly over there we're all in trouble, maybe even our big leagues over here |

I heard their first group game pulled in 15m viewers.
This increased to 24m for the Germany game. Bear in mind the Superbowl pulled in 111m viewers though. |

America sucks at the moment so that's why they are interested in the World Cup.

Spoke to a couple of friends earlier on who are in different parts of the US, and they've both said the bars they've watched their matches so far in have been packed.

I think they might do Belgium. Belgium have some great players, but haven't really set the WC on fire, which for them is quite bad considering they had quite an easy group.
USA are like little terriers, they put a lot of work in, full of passion (take note England), but seem to lack any real threat. Even last night the German goalie had to come nearly to the half way line to actually get to touch the ball. |

Not true. It comes from the US Naval Academy. They used it for Football and Lacrosse.

I'm pleased for the US team that their country are getting behind them but I'm guessing that their enthusiasm for "soccer" will be similar to the way we get excited about sports such as cycling, rowing and curling during the Olympics. Lots of interest and support during the weeks of the major competition, but once its over they'll go back to following their traditional favourites and forget about soccer for another 4 years.

In that ESPN promo were the American Outlaws. They are an unofficial supporters group that was formed by a small group supporters in Nebraska that wanted to gain more support for the USMNT in 2007. The group is organized into local chapters that are established in cities. The local chapters handle local viewing parties, building support for the national team at the local level, and are responsible for organizing festivities & supporters in the event their city hosts a game. There are currently 142 official local chapters. Also they promote soccer through grassroots to encourage children to participate.
I would say that what the American Outlaws have done to promote and support USMNT is certainly one thing that has helped to improve how we see Association Football in the States. I just really hope that US soccer continues to grow in support and encouraging of young people to play continues after this World Cup. |

What are the crowds like in the MLS - is there a clear difference in certain areas in terms of popularity or are they fairly spread out support wise?

They really seem to be buying into this World Cup. They have even got all German hero, Jurgen Klinsmann to sing their national anthem against his own country! ![]() I've always said if the United States start taking football seriously, the rest of the world is doomed, because they will dominate it. |

I am speechless, really I have never read so much drivel in one article before. Your right it is surprising that she can write, but it is a load of claptrap. It really sounds like she has never seen a proper football match before.
