Just read a post by Nick Hall on the FA2 thread and it makes very interesting reading about the songs they are given to sing:
Quote:
“Jane Lush (head of entertainment commissioning for the BBC) took a hands on role in the show, and in deciding songs people should sing…. I was told at one point that she didn’t know who ‘Pink’ was, so Carolynne wasn’t allowed to sing ‘Just like a pill’ and apparently she didn’t think the viewers would relate to ‘Norwegian Wood ‘(for me) as she’d never heard the song and didn’t know who wrote it…. This is by no means biased opinion towards each of the contestants, but it is easy to see how we were manipulated by the opinions of the people choosing the songs….. Songs at the end of the day are very personal things, and people associate certain artists with certain songs… I think things would have been very, very different if Audley hadn’t had to sing ‘Mrs Jones’……
I should point out that my ‘first’ song was supposed to be ‘Stuck in the Middle With you’ and I had to argue hard that if I were to sing that, I stood no chance of getting into the house (a point well proven by Al in Saturdays Celeb FA) It took me 3 days of arguments to get it changed to ‘Hero’…..”
