Been commented on quite a lot. His breathing out noisily at the end of each sentence he utters is so noticeable.

He's awful. Terrible acting and a creepy mouth breather of a character. I wish Adam had shot him. He would have been carted off to jail and no more James 2 for the price of one!

The only reason he tucks his thumbs in his belt loops is to stop him being a knuckle dragging mouth breather.

I'm afraid to say that he is indeed an appallingly one dimensional bad actor

funnily enough I don't remember these complaints about Bill Ward from his Corrie days or the complaints we saw about Jason Merrils when he joined, its almost as if Emmerdale fans are never actually happy

Or perhaps they are more discerning

nah Lawrence Olivier in his pomp could join and he'd be criticized for being too hammy

Jason Merrells is fit though. And he can act.

James is currently ticking neither box.

ETA: I sound like a 13 year old girl there. To clarify, I'm not

at this point Bill Ward will still be given a lot of instruction on how they want the character, where is people like Jeff Hordley will get a lot of free reign on how to portray a given scene

LOL... I'm not sure I agree with that but ifr you're saying he was no worse in Coronation street, a show I don't watch, you certainly would have heard the same criticisms from me if I did watch it.... er if you see what I mean

That's a fair point. I don't think James/Bill is as bad as gets made out, but I do think we need to see a lot more to endear the character to the audience.

Who is Jason Merrells? Is he Declan?
In which case see previous answer with regards to Bill Ward

TBH I think being hyper critical has become a habit for us Emmerdale fans on here, to the point where the slightest thing will set people off

but that's not something the Actor can do anything about

that's him, even Gaynor Faye, who plays his sister, a highly respected actress took a lot of stick early on

Maybe so, but unfortunately for him unless they give him more to get his teeth into he's going to fall very far behind the rest of the cast? I remember him as Charlie Stubbs and he had the same style of acting. Of course his character is still being developed, but as an actor himself he should be giving life to the character, not letting the scripts dictate the direction.

I'm not hyper critical, I just happen to think the character he plays is badly drawn and that the actor concerned isn't a very good actor, as I understand he lucked into acting and it was never his chosen profession, I think we see the reason every time he's on screen.

In general I try criticise the characters rather than the actors but I'm afraid Bill Ward is for me. simply not very good. He looks unconfortable on screen, he delivers every line in the same manner, a manner that suggests, he's working on remembering his lines rather than performing them and realistically a lot of the cast look uncomfortable around him.
*Shrug* Just my opinion at the end of the day, no ore or less valid than any other.

There is really no need for everyone to get their knickers in a twist Bill Ward is only in ED for a short duration he as a lot of theatrical work in the pipeline.....But it is funny to see people's reaction to a fictional character.....I wonder who will be the next character to come in for such criticism?....lol

Actually, I don't really have anything against him but there are a couple of posters who get wound up when I give him some stick and thats quite funny
