The darker colour and lighting reminds me of Tom Baker's wooden panelled console room. And I loved that room!

I actually find it ridicilous some people cannot understand what he says in the trailer - this guy is not speaking in a big broad Glaswegian accent - he is speaking in a considered, polite, clear manner. Bet there will still be tons of people saying "Can't understand the new doctor, what language is he speaking?!!" etc etc

In my case it has nothing to do with the accent (I understood everything in the trailer but it was difficult than normal) it was the speed at which it was said (faster than how Capaldi speaks normally and in the regeneration scene so I don't think it has anything to do with him). Once the actual episode airs I don't think anyone would be complaining about understanding him (unless the music is too loud)

Didn't they have some problems with not understanding him during filming?

I had to listen carefully so I'm not at all surprised that some have had difficulty understanding the speech. Nothing to do with the accent. It's the distortion and the relatively low signal to noise ratio.

Do you think people are making it up?!

I had difficulty hearing too. That however was because of the background music.

Not claiming any 'special powers' but transcribing speech accurately is a big part of my job so I have confidence in what my ears tell me here. I definitely hear it without the 'a'. The subtitles on TV omit the 'a' and Sheffielder also says that a BBC Facebook post does the same. In contrast, the BBC youtube clip includes the 'a' in the title.

It might just be a result of them chopping the audio up a bit.

EDIT: I've just extracted the audio from the youtube clip and played about with it. There is definitely no 'a' to be heard.

Am I good man makes no grammatical sense at all. Unless the new Doctor has turned into some mid life crisis surfer dude. 'lets get in the Tardis maaaaan'. Erm no.

The official BBC YouTube video is entitled 'Am I a good man?'

Case closed not that it should ever have been open.

BBC in 'can't understand what actor is saying' bad casting shocker!!!!

Quote:
“BBC tv has denied the casting of Peter Cabaldi as the new Doctor was a mistake despite over one million twitter comments from upset fans claiming; "we can't understand a word he says!"

Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat:

"Peter does have a strong Scottish accent but we feel it's easy to understand if you download the new BBC app 'Clear Accent'. The app will decipher the audio track of each episode. You'll hear it all perfectly. The app's inexpensive. It's a mere £99.99 and half the proceeds go to my bank account."”

Closing metaphorical cases might be satisfying but it won't add an 'a' to what he actually says. He says 'am I good man' and that fact that that appears to make no grammatical sense doesn't change that.

The sentence is 'am I a good man'. The fact the a gets lost in the mix doesn't change this fact.

You're probably quite right in that it's intended to be 'am I a good man'. I'm not arguing against that. However, what he actually says is 'am I good man'. Clearly most people hear it without the 'a' given that you get 321,000 results on google for "am i good man" + "doctor who" vs 12,400 if the 'a' is included.

'Am I Good Man' makes grammatical sense if 'good man' functions as a compound definite noun (as with 'Black Rod') rather than an adjective + indefinite noun.

I think it's interesting and will be leaving my case open for now.

Flashback to some audio of Matt Smith confronting the Daleks leaking out before Series 5 aired and not going down too well. Some were already concerned about this kid playing The Doctor...worked out rather well, I thought.

I find it all pretty entertaining, tbh. Some new stuff to comment on....and this preview has got me excited. The countdown begins....

Maybe, maybe not. In the unlikely event that the 'who is Good Man' arc dominates the next series I shall return to this thread in triumph!

August seems a strange start date because school children are on summer holiday and some might be overseas. I dunno, perhaps September - when the new school year starts - would be more appropriate.

It's also a bit strange to start BBC's flagship sci-fi show in August when September/October is when all new autumn drama shows begin. Can't fathom out why August is the best time!

Anyway, looking forward to it. I'll miss Matt Smith but the Doctor Who ship never stops sailing. Onwards!

Gives Doctor Who a month of breathing room before Atlantis starts and also widens the gap slightly between S8 and Christmas.

Schools start back here on 13th August, so it is good. Kids do watch the telly during the holidays too, or so I have heard

The 23rd of August is the Saturday of the August bank holiday weekend, which maintains the tradition of starting new DW series at bank holidays.
When they were in the spring, they often started at Easter.

Yep - practically the end. 25th's a bank holiday, and the kids are back the following week. Easter never hurt it, and it was sandwiched in between two bank holidays back then.

Good trailer it makes sense. Clara was the first person 12 saw. Course he would look to her. They went through a lot together when he was 11. Just found out he didn't destroy Galifrey like he thought. 12 should question himself and his role as the "Doctor".
