It has to be the Who Killed Lucy Beale? storyline in my opinion.
Not necessarily because of what's been shown so far, more because of how the producers have carefully constructed the fall-out of it. Also I think it's absolutely brilliant how for once a soap has decided to kill off a hugely important character to the show in terms of family history despite them not being iconic. It's not like the producers just picked a character who was at a dead end storyline-wise. They chose someone who could've had a long future on the square. But they cut it short. Therefore the audience could empathise with the characters more because no one would've suggested Lucy would be killed off out of all of the characters on the square. There was no overexposure of Lucy beforehand - it just happened and no one on the square would've expected it. I think Lucy's murder was far more "real" than most regular murders in soapland and that's mostly down to the fact that DTC wanted to focus on the grief and mourning process. Soaps usually fast-forward that bit and just get to the outcome of the story. |

For me, Johnny coming out and his and Linda's re-establishing of their relationship in EE. It's been realistic, well written and acted and very understated by usual soap standards. It's had a good mixture of feel good moments and frustrating moments and I like the fact that it hasn't been rushed. Just a really well done storyline.
Also generally been a fan of the Lucy storyline although I feel like it's lost a bit of momentum recently. |

The JP rape storyline is my favourite despite it's flaws. I'm also enjoying Lucy Beale murder storyline.

Probably Katy dying on hollyoaks but nothing's really gripped me on any soap this year to be honest. Last time I was really gripped was the siege in emmerdale, sienna being a crazy bitch and Brendan's exit on hollyoaks
