Big Brother comes to Finland

A new territory will get its first ever Big Brother show from September to December this year, applications open now:

http://www.sub.tv/bigbrother/ for anybody fluent in Finnish (I'll be the only one here I suppose )

They have previously showed the UK BBs starting with BB2 up to 4, and they have proved to be so popular that a domestic version has now been commissioned. It is expected that they will show BB5 before BB Suomi, and I have been strictly banned by friends and family to mention Nadia or indeed anything that would spoil the winner for them...

I suspect loads of booze and frolics in the snow considering the time of the year... Then again, the Finnish versions of eg. Survivor have been very very boring indeed, with nobody really saying a lot, as the custom is up there

Hmm, don't think I could get SubTV on satellite over here...

You should apply!

It'll be easy for anyone over there watching BB5 to check the winner on the internet I suppose.

How do they show it over there? Do they use subtitles or is English widely understood in Finland?

They use subtitles, as with all other foreign programmes. Am wondering how the translators cope with some of the slang stuff, have thought of offering some assistance

Mina olen suomalainen. Likewise, a FM called Timo who sometimes haunts this site. However, the winner of BB UK was not fluent in English so it is by no means an absolute requirement.
