Shirley - the female Billy Mitchell
In the last few weeks Shirley has really started to get on my nerves in the same way that Billy has done for years. They both have the same pathetic facial expressions whenever they're feeling sorry for themselves. And they both react to situations in an incredibly stupid way. Like Shirley smiling because Dean paid Phil?!

I disagree Billy Mitchell is unfortunately a usual filler character who gets something good to do once every 2 years, where as Shirley is more of a stronger character, even before the Carter family, Shirley had more screen time than Billy!
But I do hate how Billy became nothing more than a filler character, the actor is good, but rarely gets given stuff to bring him out of his comfort zone and I'm afraid that could rub off on Lola, who is a good when given the chance! Billy is a long term character, EastEnders should hold on to them, they are continuity in the making! |

Both Billy and and Shirley need to be moved away from Phil. Phil undermines them both and in the past, has ruined them. That is where the similarities end for me though, I think Linda H is a cracking actress and Shirley is one of the shows most complex and fascinating characters. Just stop her chasing after Phil, now, please. Tell him where to go Shirl!

She is just as dishonest as Silly Billy but Silly Billy is not totally vile like her.

She probably will tumble further downhill this year I think. She should just tell Phil to go and do one with his threats, but if her secret does get out I think the family will pretty much unite, but cut ties with Shirley and Stan (unless he manages to anchor his feet in). I could see Dean being accepted into Mick's family as another oblivious victim, with Shirley pushed out further. Can't see Tina wanting to get over all of that any time quick as well. I can imagine them having Linda as the only one to give her time of day. Shirley would be out of the Vic at all hours: "MCKKKK KCKK DEEEEN"

Shirley just goes round in circlws these days, I bet Linda gets peed off that every script shhe gets starts off with someone finding her in the gutter.

^ I agree, I'd like to see some progression with Shirley and her kids/family. I'm hoping this current s/l has the intention of rebuilding Shirley from rock bottom, they will hopefully use the exploration of her history to allow her to face her demons, I want them to keep her dry, witty humour and sarcasm, (her one liners are brilliant after all) but it would be nice to see her getting it right some of the time, Linda H surely must get fed up of Shirley always being drunk, although she plays it well, (she's sure had enough practice), it must be quite frustrating.

Is it lying down in the gutter, sipping from vodka, while at the same wanting to rip off your son? She's a lowlife and a user. |
