I'd say you can buy good 4K & bad 4K, it just depends what you want to pay. The 58" Panasonic that we had in store for a week or so was fantastic on the demo footage and looked great on the HD football from Freeview, no less clear & perhaps marginally clearer than a 50" 1080 TV we had above it. That said the 58" Panasonic is £2500 so it should be bloody marvellous!
If the 4K tv is made from low end LCD master panels the pq will be technically more detailed but will still suffer from bad colours, motion blur, bad viewing angles the same as low end normal LCDs are.
£1499 for a 55" 4K TV? It's "not a bad" price for "not a bad" TV.
