Costa Rica vs Greece - ITV 9pm KO
I honestly think Costa Rica will continue their incredible form and defeat Greece and secure their place in the QFs. They have speed and strength on their side which will probably see them through the Greek defence.
Enjoy the match! |

It's a shame England couldn't have had a softer draw and topped Group D as Greece are probably the weakest team still in the competition.
I'm going for a 2-0 Costa Rica win and a likely quarter final with Holland next Saturday. |

Cant believe we're in the knockout stage and I'm still having to watch the dull as dishwater Greece in action.

Don't be suprised if this goes to penalties.
Costa Rica ought to win this, they've only conceded one goal and have looked pretty assured going forward. But if they misfire, getting bogged down by a cynical wiley old fox that is Greece who've been there and done it, they could find themeselves going out. Greece will be more than happy to take this to penalties if need be. |

Would love to see Greece do a EURO 2004 again, most neutrals probably disagree with me mind!

I don't mind the Greeks so much. They won me a nice sum of money in the office sweepstake back in 2004
. I do appreciate they are not the most eye catching of teams but they do have a system and it works for them for the most part. I thought they were good value in their win against the Ivory Coast. Hard one to call this as both teams are quite solid defensively but have a sneaky feeling the Greeks might prevail.

Greece were fun to watch in their win, I'd hope to see that team more than the stereotype they've forced themselves to become. I can't wait for Peter_Lamy's red hot analysis throughout.

I think Greece have been better than some have given credit for. They ran into what has proved to be a red hot Colombian side first up and held on with 10 men against Japan, and you couldn't claim they didn't deserve the win v Ivory Coast, they hit the woodwork three times before the penalty.
Been most impressed by their collective ability as a team. That Poppodopolopodous is a good player though. (?) |

I think the 2094 team were a bit more solid.

Greece have more technical players than their reputation suggests too, Kone is a player I've liked a while. I was hoping Ninis would make it, is he injured or just gone off the boil?

You've been to the future? How are England doing in 2094? Have we won a World Cup yet?

For the sake of a vaguely open and entertaining game we must have an early Costa Rica goal.
If not, the usual Greek gameplan will apply and reduce the match to 120 stupefyingly dull minutes of inconclusive football followed by a penalty shoot out. |

I think Greece will win 1-0, really hope I am wrong though. Tonight, we're all Costa Ricans.

Doesn't really feel like a R16 game. Even more bizarre that one of these two will end up in a World Cup QF. For the sake of interest I hope it's Costa Rica who win.

Trust me strange teams getting into the QF is not a biggie in the WC.
We've had Cameroon, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Romania, South Korea, Turkey, Bulgaria and even Ireland make QF appearances. It's the Semifinals you've gotta worry about. |

Not me, I'm going for the unfairly maligned underdog.
However, you can't deny that the reason everyone's raving about how brilliant this World Cup is is because most of the teams have played in an open, attacking way and the duller interludes we have witnessed have come from teams like Greece sitting back and just trying to eke out a winning goal on the counter attack. If you want to imagine what a whole tournament like that would be like, think back to Italia '90 and the appallingly sparse quality of the football on display there - and I don't think too many people look back on Euro 2004 (which Greece won) with much fondness either. The other point to make with Greece, though, is that they're capable of being effective in an attacking sense when they're forced to come out and indeed proved it against the Ivory Coast earlier this week - so on that basis it's a shame they're not inclined to do that until they really need to. |

I hope to be pleasantly surprised by a 7 goal thriller. My glass is half full today.
