Okay, Greece have been awful to watch for years, but their country is in the doldrums, would be amazing for the country if they won the World Cup.
They won the flipping Euros! What more do they want?

Just might kill off the love of the game in the rest of the world though....
I wonder how many countries have won both the Euros and the World Cup in the space of only a decade? Greece would join an elite group, I presume.

Mexicans did the same against the Dutch, don't know why teams realise that tactics such as this just loses games...
Me too. I'm just puzzled at why teams don't learn. Did't they see other teams like Mexico making exactly the same mistakes? Why don't they learn?

Greece will not win the World Cup.

The first team of any real quality they'll play will destroy them, and if they do get through that'll be Holland next weekend.

Germany 70s and 90s, France 1998, 2000, Spain past 3 tournaments all spring to mind.

I guess that this match is merely a formality as whoever wins doesn't stand a chance against Holland in the quarter final, so I don't know why I'm worried about it.

Credit to Greece. They may be as dull as dishwater to watch but my god, they know how to finish a game.
I find it hard to give them much credit. Balls were bouncing around the box constantly. Nobody could finish. They all played like they had two left feet in the penalty area. They couldn't head crosses if their lives depended on it. Couldn't keep shots on frame. Their free kicks at the top of the box were dire. Most teams a man up for that long and with that many balls in the box likely would have potted at least three or four.

Its the fear factor. You don't want to risk losing what you have. Bit daft to be thinking that way for 40 minutes before full time (glares at Mexico) but they you go.

Greece looking to wrap this up quickly.

Costa Rican keeper has got to be careful, he's already been booked for time-wasting.

That's it. The only other European teams to win the World Cup are us and Italy. Obviously we've never won the Euros and Italy have only won them once in 1968 (much more than 10 years from any of their World Cup wins).

Has any player ever been sent off because of 2 bookings in a match for time wasting?

Holland looked pretty ordinary today. Reckon one of these could get at them.

All true. So.....why aren't the opposition good enough to beat them?

Ivory Coast had them dead to rights. Ditto Costa Rica. Greece have this knack of late goals. They aren't a great side but I do admire their never-say-die attitude of playing until the final whistle.

Mexico have been a quality side. Would have favoured either to advance against the winner of this match.

Because they've played very poor sides so far, apart from Colombia who absolutely destroyed them.

The searing conditions had a lot to do with that to be fair. Over 38 degrees on the pitch.

Greece playing the far more positive game, Costa Rica have been on the back foot for the last 40 minutes or so really.

I actually admire the Greek side, they don't have much quality, so they make up the difference with a good defensive strategy, and score when they get the breaks.

If they didn't defend so well, the bigger teams would tear them apart. Now they're showing they'll attack when they need to, even if they don't have much flair or skill at finishing, and showing great fitness too.
