Doesn't really feel like a R16 game. Even more bizarre that one of these two will end up in a World Cup QF.
Some people may have not fancied either team but both have been in good form in the past couple of years. Up until now, Greece have won 10 competitive games since September 2012. Costa Rica have done well too, beating Mexico and the United States last autumn. Recently beat Uruguay and Italy, of course.

If we see the Greece that deservedly won against Ivory Coast where they counter attacked and hit the woodwork a few times then it could be a decent game. But it is Greece!

I hope to be pleasantly surprised by a 7 goal thriller. My glass is half full today.
You'll probably need a full pint (or 5) of Guinness to get yourself through the expected Greek performance tonight.

Just had a thought, one of ITV's channels broke down some time ago this evening, and they showed a totally different program to the one advertised, and hope same thing doesn't happen here, as I want to see this match ITV!

Samaras is abysmal. One of the worst strikers I can recall watching play.

I'd like to see Costa Rica emerge victorious but as in the Ivory Coast group game it wouldn't surprise me one iota if the Greeks do just enough to progress.

Trust me strange teams getting into the QF is not a biggie in the WC.

We've had Cameroon, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Romania, South Korea, Turkey, Bulgaria and even Ireland make QF appearances.

It's the Semifinals you've gotta worry about.
Czechoslovakia appeared in two World Cup finals, Bulgaria, Turkey and South Korea have all appeared in semi finals.

Agreed. "Costa Rica - Quarter Finalists" has a nice ring to it, but Greece know how to play the game, in more ways than one. They know when to park the bus, and they know when to go for it, as Ivory Coast found out.

Hopefully the latter Greece has turned up tonight.

The Greek manager looked like he was about to fall asleep, and that was just the anthems.

I don't like the ads before the match it takes away the atmosphere! I know they have to make money but...

He seems okay from what I have seen; granted not a lot. Has a knack of winning frees (legitimately) and seems to hold up the ball to a decent standard

Really hope both these teams go for it

I'd like the Costa Rican's to win, but I also wanted the Mexicans to beat the Dutch, so the Greeks will probably run away with this now.....

Already a few decent breaks for CR. They just need better quality at the business end.

We'll have to cheer for Costs Rica then, as I'd like them to win too.

I hope for an early goal by Costa Rica, otherwise I fear Greece will adopt the tactic of boring the opposition into submission.

Same feeling here.

Costa Rica have only let one goal in the tournament so far, so that's a good sign. They've scored more goals than Greece too.
So there's things to be positive about if you're rooting for Costa Rica.

If there was a trophy for that, Greece would win hands down....

They can score goals though. They didn't get through on draws or anything.
They scored 3 against Uruguay.

What I hope is that if CR get a goal, they don't do what the Mexicans did and switch off totally....

Be surprising if they did, as they don't seem that kind of team.
