Because you need change.

You need somebody who is fit and healthy to carry the show on to a whole new generation.

Wouldn't have happened. No suprise however that Grade didn't want the show back.

I recall hearing something about the makers of the TV Movie initially wanting Tom Baker back to regenerate into McGann, before instead going with Sylvester McCoy.

I have to say I'm glad that neither proposal happened.

How would they get away with that?
were they seriously considering retconing the Davison,Baker and Mccoy years? sounds ridiculous :S
