EE: Do You Think Certain Scenes Are Done So "Big Stars" Share Scenes Together?....
...I do, I think its been happening quite a lot over the last few years and you can almost tell by the drop in acting that the actors are "in awe" and or happy to be sharing a direct scene with another major cast member.
I think the most recent example of this was the swimming scenes between Mick and Ian. I mean, one minute Ian is all over the place because of the death of his daughter Lucy, now he's in a relaxed state of mind taking it easy in a swimming pool as if he hasn't got a care in the world and suddenly notices an apprehensive looking Mick? |

Do you mean are certain scenes contrived so certain characters can appear together? I'd say yes. It's a dramatic conceit. It was done to disraction during the Branning era. A way was found for one of them to be involved in almost every storyline.
I must admit I found it weird and a bit creepy that an old perv like Ian goes swimming by himself. I didn't much enjoy the Mick/Ian scenes. They were pretty dull. |

Stan is a pretty obvious one. Each of the Carters have had a chance for one to one scenes with him, the latest being Linda. But then what actor wouldn't want to work with Tim West.

I remember when Alfie and Kat came back, there was loads of "pair up" scenes done with all sorts of big characters that seemed to be contrived. I also remember a really cringe worthy cut when Tanya was new in the programme and she "joined in" on a chat that Peggy was having with someone at the Minute Mart. The way Barbra Windsor turned around with a cringe worthing smile as if to say "there, our first/"exchange with each other" as well as if she was about to say "and who are you"?!

With Stan, while I agree some of his scenes are contrived, sort of, but at the same time its more about developing his character which is good. Timothy West is such a good actor too that he has real screen presence/gravitas like and I like the expansion of his character and storylines. A bit too much mystery about him in general though.

Yes especially in Home and Away. When Sally Fletcher (the biggest Home and Away character ever) returned to the show, it was cringeworthy to watch her having scenes with the Braxtons. She was sharing a big random scene with Brax so the Braxtons are seen as "saints" from Sally.

Why is that pervy? I and I'm sure many others prefer to go swimming by myself. I find it relaxing, and actually does help to forget all my troubles, not to socialize. I'd encourage someone in his position to do it more often on his own, if it helps him to move on from Lucy's death

I think it's nice when we have these star clashes. It creates magic moments.

I thought it was fitting that he met such an icon on her home ground....she gave him a ticking off.

It happens in films too imo. I remember Bruce Willis, imo was struggling to hide his admiration for Christopher Walken in their first scene together in the film Last Man Standing I think it was called. Willis kept on letting a smirk appear on his face in a scene where the smirks should not really have been there. |

![]() I'm female and go swimming 3 mornings a week and I always go on my own and I agree that it's not pervy or weird at all! I swim forty lengths and then shower and wash my hair, once dried and dressed and stuff packed I then breakfast at Wetherspoons and it's MY time to relax and recuperate and it's VERY therapeutic and helps me unwind and de-stress. Ian is still grieving but there's absolutely nothing wrong with going swimming alone and I loved his scenes with Mick and anyway, swimming will do Ian the world of good and help him to get his head together, to just have that time when nothing else exists just him and the water and he's getting exercise too. Ian hasn't forgotten Lucy he just needs time out and I think it's great to see him out and about instead of brooding indoors like he has been. |

Clearly the fact Ian is a lecherous kerb crawling pervert has been lost on some people. In general there's nothing wrong with going swimming by yourself.

We know this but I don't think prostitutes tout their wares at the swimming baths do they?
This is 2014 too - the street corner is a bit 1980s. |

I think Ian being at the baths was just a plot device to help Mick overcome his fears and get in the water. |

I think I understand your point OP- the thing that stands out for me was when Sharon returned, she was instantly involved with the Brannings which actually was a major factor in the deterioation of her character (she slept with Jack on her first night, incredibly out of character)

I actually think the Ian/Mick friendship is purely being started up because Lee killed Lucy. I've always felt this would be the outcome and now this is happening it only makes the fallout more great.

I missed their introduction what happened? Why was it funny? Hey! Alfie's not Mick's dad is he?
Oh my lord! Can you imagine if he was? ![]() From what I recall: Alfie met Shirley upstairs in the Vic looking for Phil. He tried to sweet talk her by saying that Phil had pulled a cracker who looked like Sharon Stone. Shirley had just got out the bath and was in her dressing gown. Her response was typically withering and it was very heavily hinted that she copied that *cough* scene in Basic Instinct. Alfie walked away pulling a face! It was hilarious!
