Rate your best player of the tournament sofar.

My choice in order:

1. Robben
2.Neymar
3.Messi
4 Rodriguez
5.Thomas Muller

I picked robben first because he's been the most influential player for the dutch, scoring fabulous dribbling goal with immense pace for a 30 year old, and without him, dutch would of lost to Mexico. Hasn't had one bad game as of yet and continued to perform for full 90 minutes, if holland can reach the final, he will be the best candidate for the golden ball.

Neymar has carried the team at a young age singlehandedly, this Brazil team has to be the worst ever Brazil team I've witnessed in my lifetime but one reason why Brazil is in the competition is because of Neymar, scoring crucial goals against croatia and Cameroon with almost an assist against chile, when he wasn't fully fit, Brazil struggled against mexico, showing moments of brilliance.

Messi hasn't impressed me in the first 2 matches in the group, against iran he wasn't to be seen for whole of the match and against bosnia he came alive after 70th minute but he scored two vital goals for argentina in the end, and argentina would of struggled had a wonder strike did not come in the last seconds in the iran match. His most complete performance has to be against Nigeria and sofar has carried the team in vital moments.

Robben has been the only stand out player for me so far.

Robben. He's consistently making penetrating runs, that is opening up space and scoring too.

The sad thing is, he wasnt fully fit, yet he was still able to outclass England and put them out of the tournament.

Clint Dempsey. He's been carrying the USA as much as Neymar has been carrying Brazil.

It's really difficult to do this without breaking it down into positions.

GK - Ochoa (Mexico)
Honourable mentions - Navas (CR), Howard (USA), Enyeama (Nigeria), Ospina (Colombia)

CBs - Yepes (Colombia) and Moreno (Mexico)
HMs - Marquez (Mexico), Kompany (Belgium), Thiago Silva (Brazil), Medel (Chile)

RB - Aurier (Ivory Coast)
HMs - Debuchy (France), Gamboa (CR), Darmian (Italy), Janmaat (Netherlands)

LB - Blind (Netherlands)
HMs - A Pereira (Uruguay), Rojo (Argentina), Rodriguez (Switzerland)

DMs - Kroos (Germany) and Vidal (Chile)
HMs - Pirlo (Italy), Besic (Bosnia), Luiz Gustavo (Brazil), Mascherano (Argentina), Matuidi (France), Jones (USA)

AMs - Neymar (Brazil), Rodriguez (Colombia) and Robben (Netherlands)
HMs - Pjanic (Bosnia), Messi (Argentina), Olic (Croatia), Cuadrado (Colombia), Alexis Sanchez (Chile), Mertens (Belgium), Valbuena (France), Vargas (Chile)

FW - Muller (Germany)
HMs - Benzema (France), Van Persie (Netherlands), Campbell (CR), Dempsey (USA), Slimani (Algeria), Enner Valencia (Ecuador)

A team of players who have had nightmare world cups would be a shorter list. Casillas for GK and Dzeko for FW (even if he did score in the 3rd game I think he must have missed more chances in the other two games than anyone else has in the tournament!) - those are the easy picks.

I have to go with the glory boy forwards and these four stand out for me:

Muller, Neymar, Robben, Rodriguez.

Messi hasn't hit the form of the others yet but if he does, he'll leapfrog them.

I could add a few to that list

Igor Akinfeev. Some how palmed the ball into the back of his own net. He had his body behind the ball, hands in the correct position to catch. I have seen the video countless times I still cannot see how he does it.

Steven Gerrard. Great player but had a shocking world cup. Totally bypassed in the first game by Italy. Second game gives the ball away in midfield for the first goal. then knocks a header backwards for the the second goal.

Pepe - Sent off early for Portugal for a stupid head butt. Left his team to play 10 men against Germany in the midday sun.

Fred - He might have scored a goal but frankly is this really the best Brazil have up front? He is static, makes no runs, does not track back makes zero effort for the team.

Diego Costa - Poor in every game he played. Not so much his fault as the teams style did not suit him. Still you know you have had a bad game when Fernando Torres comes on for you.

Cameroon - Yep the whole team. For so many reasons but here are just a few. Fighting each other on the pitch, fighting over money before they kicked a ball, Alex Song sending off, 2 players sent home early.

Main reason is the Mexico game in which they had a 6 man line defence that still could not defend. Even when they went a goal down the team did nothing at all to make any effort to get back into the game.

Can't argue with too much there at all - but not even a mention of Fabian Johnson, the right-back for the USA? He's been the best in the tournament for me so far.

Mentioned him in the shop window thread. Ahmed Musa. His goals in the Argentina match were as splendid as Messi's.

Apologies for quoting my own post (which is kind of like talking about oneself in the third person...), but the kid that came on to replace Johnson last night had an absolute blinder. The States would have been far better off starting Johnson and Yedlin together rather than leaving Zusi on the pitch for 70 minutes of achieving f***-all!

Mathieu Valbuena has been very good; it pains me to say, but France seem to be the only team to have some momentum building; however slight.

Well you can all throw your two cents in but David Luiz is the best player at the World Cup and that's official.

Yedlin would be my pick so far.

That was some game he had last night.

James Rodrigez, Neymar and Robben have all been absolutely outstanding so far and have carried their teams to the quarter finals. And as much as it pains me to admit it because I can't stand him, Argentina would be nowhere without Messi.

Suarez was also outstanding until his Mike Tyson moment.
