France left it late but 2-0 looks convincing on paper.

And that's the end of that.

Fitting that Griezmann should get the clincher as it was his introduction which completely swung the match France's way.

(Actually, it's a Joseph Yobo own goal.)

Nigeria were more competitive than I expected but a deserved victory for France in the end.

don't think we'll be seeing Giroud starting in the QF....Griezmann is a terrific little player.

Lets hope Deschamps sees the difference that Griezmann on the left and Benzema through the middle made. They've got to start like that against Germany(/Algeria).

Good, disciplined performance from France, with Deschamps demonstrating a good touch with his substitution, tuning into this forum. Les Bleus are certainly contenders. Should be a good contest against Algeria, considering the history between those countries,

... or Germany.

There it is, France deservedly progress to the quarter finals.

Nigeria not disgraced by any means but the French ultimately had that extra ability which edged them out.

A goalkeeping error and an own goal, but even so there was only one team in it in the last quarter.

Deserved win for France in the end, but a good showing from the Nigerians.

All group winners have progressed so far.

Nigeria can have no complaints - they put in a shift but when France went for it they had no response. The "dark chevals" trot on.

Germans could be revisiting 1982. Algeria grudge match. France grudge match.
However don't think the French ever beat the Germans - bit like England really

Anyhow right team won today. Second half anyhow, in the post Giroud period!

Well done, France! What a great way to redeem yourselves from the last World Cup!

Matuidi could easily have got a red. Would have been a different game then. That aside, France deserved to through. Nigeria shaded it in the first half for me but France always had that extra last third quality, especially once Giroud went off. Meanwhile Nigeria's final ball was too often sloppy and wasteful.

the way things are going, I should have done a group winner accumulator.....!

True, but they're more grudge matches for the teams facing Germany as they're the ones who were wronged by the Germans 32 years ago.

The Germans don't really think of England as a grudge match. It's the Dutch who are their big rivals.

Yep, the Dutch really like getting stuck into them.

Ok...but at a World Cup though And imagine England had been done like France were by the Dutch ref in 1982 (and Schumacher - worst foul I've ever seen) and then were unlucky in 86 with a freekick that wasn't and their keeper made his only mistake. Oh and Battiston also missed a cast iron chance to level.
The French will be more than a bit nervous of Germany. Bogey team.

I remember the 5-1 because there is almost nothing but pain since 1966

Agree with you about the Schumacher foul; definitely worst I have seen at a world cup. That was a wonderful French side.
