They played well but it's not a harsh result. Germany dominated the run of the play and possession. And for all of Algeria's missed opportunities Germany had many times more. I see some people ruing Algeria's lack of a finishing touch when it was actually Germany's lack of finishing that kept this match even on the scoresheet.

A wonderful match.

The Germans get the result but the Algerians have done themselves proud. To a man they were magnificent.

Heroic effort from Algeria who were out on their feet at the end but Germany limp on.

All credit to Algeria, that's how you go down fighting.

Group winners 6 for 6 so far. Will Argentina and Belgium make it a clean sweep tomorrow?

Germany getting through by the skin of their teeth, but they can book their tickets back home now as they've not got a chance against France if they play like this again!
Agreed, the Germans are certainly beatable on that form, hope France stuff them on Friday, though you can never write off the Germans.

That's 16 World Cup Quarter-Finals in a row for the Germans, now. Astonishing record.

Fantastic goal - but it's too little too late.

Why could they not conjure up that ball and finish until now?
No accident it came immediately after the "insurance" goal. A little bit of loose play. If Ozil doesn't score I doubt Algeria does.

Algeria flew the flag for Africa tonight, big time! If they had a predator in the box they would have won this game after 20 minutes. Fantastic performance from them, I was particularly impressed at how they often played their way out of trouble from their own box.

But against the Germans, you have to take your chances.

Gordon Strachan's "added to the tournament" line is beginning to sound quite patronising. Is he going to pat the Algerian captain on the head?

Dammit I so wanted Algeria to win!! They held off Germany so very well, and Germany always bloody go through anyway!

If they'd just been able to make it to penalties, who knows?

And I dropped a bloody heavy glass on my big toe just as Germany scored so am now hobbling

They went out with their heads high though. No shame in that, they were brilliant

His contract expired today and he's leaving.

I hope his replacement continues the good work which has gone into this team.

For me, that's going out on a high. People will be talking about this game in Algeria for years to come

Loew needs to stop his stupid vanity of playing centre-backs in the full-back position. Germany's defence was all over the show and didn't settle down until Lahm moved to right-back.

Algeria showed England how to win even when losing. They left nothing in the dressing room, nothing on the training ground, they gave everything.

59 touches for Neuer 21 of which were out the box that's got to be some sort of record.

He actually saved Germany several times with his extra sweeper role
