Are horny teenagers controlling the cameras?

Every 2 minutes is a shot of the crowd and 9 times out of 10, it's a "babe". Occasionally someone with goofy face paint or carnival head dress, but let's be honest here, it's usually a young female. I'm all for a bit of eye candy now and then, and I'm guessing a fair few females are the same when it comes to males (or whatever combinations you prefer), but there is a limit before it all starts getting a bit creepy and offensive.

Is this the right image for the world cup? Is it just expected of Brazil and their culture, because the football hasn't been half bad (compared to some world cups).

Tottycam does seem to have been working overtime during this World Cup, I can only assume it's in order to lend some balance to proceedings. There's 90 minutes of watching guys get all hot and sweaty for the ladies - so it's only fair that there's something for us gentlemen to admire too...

I have noticed that in the last few games, when a cameraman has tried to get a shot of some pretty thing, there's always been someone else in the crowd waving a flag in front of them, or sticking their own face in front of the camera instead. I don't know whether it's a deliberate ploy - but it's certainly been getting on my nerves!

Yes it's disgusting. Forget child abuse and serial murder and stuff like that. The real evil in the world is attraction and beauty and sex. They should blur out any pretty people in the crowd as well as any naked limbs or ankles in case it sends all the viewers into a state of fervent lust. First it's happy people, wearing not a lot on telly....next thing it'll be an all out orgy and depravity and violence - mark my words. Thin end of the wedge and all that - just like my local puritanical church says. Just keep the cameras off the crowd and pretend like no one is actually watching. Good idea!

Going a bit off topic here, one thing I don't get is when the camera shows exceptionally nervous or very sad fans who suddenly start smiling and waving when they realise they're on the big screen/tv. The swift change in emotion is weird to me. If I'd traveled thousands of miles to watch my team and they were losing I don't think I'd react that way at all. Perhaps it is just me but I think I'd do nothing or even react angrily. I wouldn't want to be on the screen in those circumstances.

Wait, is it only teenagers who like attractive women?

Why is it creepy and offensive? Have you run out of other things to be outraged by?

Filming a crowd at a large sporting event is not creepy and offensive, regardless of the gender of the people they film, they've done it for years and the crowd expects it. They know they may be filmed and everyone I've seen on that camera absolutely loves being filmed, to the point where they'll still jump up and down with huge grins on their faces, even if their team is seconds away from elimination

Does it only become offensive and creepy to you, the moment it happens to be a good looking woman being filmed? If it was just shot after shot of men jumping up and down screaming, you'd presumably have no problem? Just another case of someone attempting to create a bit of drama and make a fuss over nothing.

Apart from the superb penalties, ‘Tottycam’ was probably the most entertaining part of last night’s Greece/Costa Rica coverage.

To deny human nature seems pretty illogical to me. If you don't want to be human that's up to you.

More Colombian women I say, have them at every match. They're unreal.

I'm sure the attractive women aren't offended, so I don't know why you're getting offended looking at them.

There was a Colombian woman who they kept panning to at the match the other night, she was outstanding.

I suspect that some of the women are 'planted' by their agents. Good seats, model looks, skimpy team shirt, scarf to wave and very confident poses. They know they're going to be on camera - actresses and models.

I like to throw in a Mary Whitehouse reference whenever dmuk posts. Hopefully then people realise when I'm being sarcastic.

As well as how much easier it is to find attractive girls in the crowd at World Cups, the tournament has taught us that the quickest way to cure morbid depression is to notice that your face is up on the big screen.

But then as soon as the punter notices that his/her face is on screen it is whisked back to the action.

Maybe the standard and quality of babe on show in Brazil is higher than in previous tournaments and the helpful cameramen are merely pointing this out.

Is this your 1st World Cup? Cameras love a pretty face, much more than some overweight guy wiping lager off his chin and shouting "COME ON!!!!" while eating a burger.

If anything, the 'BabeCam' was barely in use in the early stages of the tournament

With all the CCTV cameras in use, we should be a one happy nation.
