Arjen Robben could face retrospective punishment from Fifa after the Netherlands winger admitted diving in their 2-1 World Cup win over Mexico.
The 30-year-old said he did not cheat to win a decisive injury-time penalty but told Dutch TV: "I apologise. In the first half I took a dive."
The Dutch FA, KNVB, have released a statement claiming Robben's comments were misinterpreted by the media and that he actually said he "fell too easily".
Just goes to show when a star player could be in trouble the top brass will come out to defend them.

Well remember our own FA got Rooney's ban reduced when he kick out at somebody in a qualifier against Montenegro.

Not exactly breaking news, robben dives. Everyone who's seen him play knows this. The one time he didn't was yesterday when the defender lunched in in the penalty area and robben jumped over him. To say I was surprised is an understatement. Its a shame he resorts to diving because he is a great player. But he's not the only player doing it and the sooner its stamped out the better. How Its stamped out i dont know Maybe giving the ref the power to send players off or retrospective action. If its proven a player has dived then 5 match ban and 2 point deduction. I bet managers wouldn't be encouraging them to go down then.

I think the point is that he seems to have admitted it and could get a ban which is why the Dutch FA is trying to backtrack.

Not really sure why he's admitted he dives. All he's done is put the spotlight on himself. Refs are gonna be watching him very closely now.

Robben comes across as a very clever player, when he gets into the penalty area he doesn't panic and often leaves the opposition with no choice but to give him a bit of contact resulting in a penalty.

Easily one of the best players in the world.
