Poor little George - orphaned by Philth's soon to return repulsive scumbag of a son.

And TPTB still write Shirley so she grovels and scrapes at King Mitchell's feet.

Pathetic.

How is that evidence? She isn't in it at all next week and I don't think she is in it much the week after next. This story isn't just about Shirley, it's about Dean and the Carter's too?

I don't think that is how it will play out. After they fight, I think she decides to put the ball in his court, essentially saying I want a relationship with you but you are a grown man, this allows Dean to decide. Bringing George back into the fold briefly, properly admitting to her failures and not forcing Dean to be on side, is a big step for Shirley.
If I've learnt anything from Jeremy Kyle...hahaha!

Plus: I've always liked Patrick/Shirley scenes, so that'll be a nice addition.

Patrick is a good person for her to talk to. He abandoned his own children when they were young, in fact babies, not coming back into their lives until they were adults. He had the same struggle to build relationships with them but succeeded in the end, even though it turned out that Paul wasn't in fact his.

I wonder how Dean will react to that ultimatum? Deep down, he wants Shirley to be in his life - look at how happy he was when she came to the salon opening.

Oh yes! I'm looking forward to Patrick being integrated more in the square and he and Shirley have a nice relationship. You are right, I forgot about him abandoning his kids, it makes him a perfect source for her to talk too. I think Shirley really is starting to evaluate her relationships with her family and kids, even though she backslides sometimes. You can tell they are showing her anguish over it all. Do we know why she left and Kevin and the kids yet?

In the video with Matt, he says that she has Dean's back on a few things in the future which means a lot to Dean so I wonder if he will decide to attempt to build a relationship with her.
I agree, he tries to hide it but I also think deep down, he does want his mum in his life, I just hope they make Shirley step up.

Yeh I think something must happen for him to see her in a new light...a bit anyway,

That would be easy to do without offering to disown him. The offer to disown Dean is a dramatic martyrish gesture that absolves Shirley of any responsibility to repair their relationship and puts the burden on Dean. Apologies, self pity and token gestures are not good enough. She earned Dean's anger but Shirley is a person who can dish it but can't take it. Instead of trying to fix things between them or giving him space she stole from him.

Personally I think that 'disown' is a bit of a strong word for the article to use as imo she isn't disowning him. She is saying, she wants to build a relationship but if he really doesn't want her to interfere in his life then she won't, well that's what I have got from the articles anyway. If they wrote it the opposite way and kept involving her in his life when he didn't want her to be, then people would be saying that was wrong too. She can't seem to win on here, no matter what she does! I think putting it to Dean allows him to decide whether he wants his mum in his life, she is basically putting the ball in his court and saying she will do what will make him happy. That's how I read it anyway.

Continually making the decision to indulge your own emotional needs regardless of the consequences for everyone else makes it impossible to win. In an attempt to win Phil back Shirley told him a personal secret about Mick. Then she blackmailed Phil (who she knows to be vindictive and violent) because she was angry he wouldn't leave his injured girlfriend for her. Doing this gave Phil the power to hurt Mick whenever he wants and cause problems for Dean's business. Rather than be honest with Mick or Dean about what she did she stole from Dean. Dean confronted her and she still refused to tell the truth. Shirley won't win until she grows up, drops the sense of entitlement and learns to take responsibility for herself.

In order for Shirley to stop being Dean's mother, wouldn't she have had to have started being one in the first place?

DTC can try as he might but no way in hell are audiences going to sympathise or care about the pathetic trainwreck's latest **** up.

Agreed. DTC is really pushing the boat out to try and make us sympathise and empathise with her, but I think the damage is too deep.

Shirley has been such a deeply unpleasant, selfish character from day one I for one find myself cheering her various disasters rather than sympathising.

I wish DTC would just bite the bullet and kill her off. She's a wasted cause after all.

I'm surprised Darren let his son anywhere near a known drunk who's in love with the violent father of Heather's recently released killer.

All of this.

Trust is earned, she broke it time and time again, it's starts with being honest and accepting that she messed up but wants to move on and mend and stop blaming others and change for the better, until she written to do this instead of the same old, it's never going to change.

BIB 1 She didn't tell Phil, he guessed. even half the viewers didn't work that one out.

BII She shot her mouth off to Ronnie when she was drunk. Yes she threatened to tell Sharon as well but she had nothing to gain from that....he would have hated her for it, and she didn't demand money to keep her mouth shut. Phil was just vindictive by demanding the money back straight away, he knew there was no way she or Mick could get hold of it, and then he threatened her entire family.

Maybe he should have kept his mouth shut about setting those thugs on Sharon...never tell a drunk you're secrets.

BIB 2 No way should she have told Dean that she is Mick's mother before she had told Mick himself.
