Earlier in the day, Ian Danter reported from Wembley Stadium on the England squad announcement.

Yes, I remember listening to that show - it was in the days not long after Ronnie Irani had left the Sports Breakfast when Alan would have a different co-host each day before they settled on a regular line-up late last summer. And for the first time this season, I got the date wrong on last night's post - I should have wrote that it was Wednesday 27th August, of course!

Bundesliga
FC Augsburg v Borussia Dortmund - Tom Rennie

Tom has mentioned during his commentary that Kevin Hatchard will be commentating for the service on Schalke v Bayern on Saturday at 5.30pm and Freiburg v Monchengladbach on Sunday at 4.30pm. I wonder if Tom on Fridays and Kevin on the late games on Saturdays and Sundays will be their regular Bundesliga commentary line-up.

Earlier today on the main talkSPORT station, Ian Abrahams updated the UEFA Europa League Group Stage draw in his capacity as morning sports newsreader.

this was a terrific commentary by the way-- helped by the fact that it was a good match-- but the interaction between Burns and 'Swanny' was great-- a prime example of how a commentator and co-commentator should work together.

David Burns always works well with a summariser who has a good sense of humour such as Peter Swan and George Kerr.

I wholeheartedly agree. I listened to all four of Hull City's Europa League qualifiers on BBC Radio Humberside, having never heard that station's sports coverage before, and was thoroughly impressed on each occasion. David Burns is a really good example of a BBC Local Radio commentator who knows and loves the club he covers and the rapport between him and Peter Swann had real warmth. Presenters Matt Dean and Gwilym Lloyd are both very good at what they do too. Shame we won't be hearing more of them covering the Tigers in Europe!

Shoving the rather obvious route of Willie and Kilmarnock into yahoo search throws up a William 'Willie' Gibson, who used to play for them nearly 8 years ago?
Mark.

Nah, he was too busy playing for Stranraer yesterday.

It's not necessarily an ex-player - both Dick Donnelly (Tay) and Hugh Keevins (Clyde) are journalists who've never kicked a ball in their lives (professionally, at least).
