The BBC normally do a pre-season new football season launch which goes onto the BBC Media Centre site with a press release, probably after the Commonwealth Games I imagine this year which might give more details. I'll keep an eye out for it.

BBC Radio Scotland only had one football reporter out today* - Scott Davie was due to cover Dunfermline v Raith Rovers but it was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

*Well, one football reporter at a football game; several are being used on the Commonwealth Games...

Once the CGs are done, Mark Chapman isn't back on air until 22nd August, a well deserved holiday I imagine!

Darren Fletcher is filling in for him on the Friday/Monday shows.

Mark Pougatch is back on the first day of the PL season (16th)

The audience figures are out. Well done to talkSPORT...

RAJAR Q2/14: talkSPORT smashes audience record

3.4 million listeners overall, the HIGHEST EVER in the history of the station
17% increase in listening hours year-on-year
Listening in London shoots up 34% year-on-year
Highest ever listening figures for the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast

Following talkSPORT’s comprehensive coverage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil the station has posted the highest ever listening figures in its history. 3.4 million sports fans are now tuning in each week according to industry figures released by RAJAR today (31 July). The official industry figures cover the second quarter of the year from 31st March - 22nd June.

Highlights of the period for talkSPORT included the climax of the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League season and the start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The station was the only UK broadcaster to broadcast every match of the tournament live.

People are also listening to talkSPORT for longer. The station’s overall listening hours now stand at 22.7million per week, a 17% year-on-year increase. These record figures show a 30% jump in hours and a 35% leap in listeners from when talkSPORT last broadcast the FIFA World Cup in Q2 2010. These massive increases have resulted in talkSPORT recording its highest ever Q2 market share.

The station’s flagship show, The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast (weekdays 6-10am) scored its largest audience ever, with 1.5 million tuning in every week to hear Alan and his team of co-hosts from across the world of sport bringing fans the day’s breaking news and interviews first. This RAJAR period saw Brazil live in Brazil, with Alan broadcasting his show overlooking the world famous Copacabana beach with all the excitement and build up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

In London, talkSPORT listening rocketed up by 34% year on year to 6.3m hours – 45% higher than Absolute Radio in the capital.

There is further success across the station’s weekday programming. Drive (4-7pm weekdays) has grown its audience to 1.34million listeners. Colin Murray and Friends (10am-1pm) attracted more than 1 million listeners, a 7% increase on Q1. Hawksbee and Jacobs (1-4pm) also achieved 1 million listeners, a 4% increase.

It’s not just football that is proving a winner on the world’s biggest sports radio station. Rugby programme Full Contact (Sundays 8-10pm), hosted by ex-England and British & Irish Lions hooker Brian Moore has seen an 87% year-on-year increase in its listeners.

Calum Macaulay, talkSPORT Managing Director said: “This is a fantastic day for talkSPORT and a great testimony to a hugely talented programming team. The record numbers also reflect our consistent and continued investment into talent and rights. Our FIFA World Cup coverage was superb and that followed on from another season of exhilarating Barclays Premier league commentaries on the station. We continue, through brilliant sports content, to attract a young and very upmarket audience with an ABC1 male profile higher than 5 Live. We have also seen our position in the London market grow significantly. It’s great news for the station and our advertisers.”

talkSPORT is the global audio partner of the Barclays Premier League and official broadcaster of the FA Cup and Capital One Cup.

Thursday 31st July - BBC Radio Humberside

Matt Dean presenting Humberside Sport from the studio

UEFA Europa League Third Qualifying Round First Leg
FK AS Trencin v Hull City - David Burns, with Simon Clark providing occasional analysis (6pm BST commentary)

Simon Clark is primarily reporting on Hull City in Slovakia for the local BBC Look North news bulletins, but has been chipping into the commentary in order to give David Burns a bit of a breather.

Tonight's commentary is on all of BBC Radio Humberside's frequencies and platforms including online. Last night's commentary on Legia Warsaw v Celtic was also streamed online by BBC Radio Scotland - a change from the norm as neither leg of Celtic's tie against KR Reykjavik in the previous round was broadcast on the internet.

Thursday 31st July - talkSPORT

Drive Time with Max Rushden and Darren Gough, followed by Sam Matterface presenting Kick Off from the AMEX Stadium joined by Darren Lewis from the Daily Mirror in London (8-10pm)

UEFA Europa League Third Qualifying Round First Leg
FK AS Trencin v Hull City - Graham Courtney

Friendly
Brighton & Hove Albion v Southampton - Alex Crook and Sam Matterface

Cricket: Third Test Match
England v India - Jon Norman, with Jack Bannister providing end-of-session summaries

Commonwealth Games: Glasgow 2014
Games Updates - Lynsey Hooper and Kate Partridge, with Michael Weadock conducting interviews from Glasgow

talkSPORT are not carrying updates on Aberdeen or St Johnstone's Europa League qualifiers tonight and didn't have a reporter covering Celtic's Champions League qualifier last night.

The two matches they do have reporters covering tonight are the first games talkSPORT have carried live reports on since the World Cup as far as I've heard, although Colin Murray, Perry Groves and Steve Bunce travelled to Spain with Welsh Football League club Pontypridd Town for their friendly against La Liga team Valencia as part of a sponsorship deal with mid-morning show sponsors Wickes (click here: Western Mail article).

Graham Courtney was back on talkSPORT tonight for the first time since finishing his work as the media manager at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre in Carnoustie, which staged the shooting events at the Commonwealth Games.

Saturday 2nd August - talkSPORT

Ian Danter presented Saturday Scoreboard with Tony Cascarino (2-4pm) and Tony Evans from The Times (4-6pm)

Emirates Cup
Valencia v AS Monaco & Arsenal v Benfica - Mike Bovill

Friendly Matches
Nottingham Forest v West Bromwich Albion - Jack Woodward
Blackpool v Burnley - Simon Humphreys
Brentford v Crystal Palace - Ian Abrahams
Reading v Swansea City - Chris Parrott
Middlesbrough v Villarreal - Graham Courtney

Cricket: T20 Blast Quarter-Final
Surrey v Worcestershire - Russell Hargreaves

Commonwealth Games: Glasgow 2014
Games Updates - Lynsey Hooper and Toby Gilles, with Michael Weadock conducting interviews from Glasgow

That was a talkSPORT match reporting debut for Chris Parrott, although he has commentated for their international service talkSPORT Live and provided European football round-ups on various shows in the past. Unusual for Jack Woodward to be covering a game on a day when Aston Villa are playing, although it appears as if the club's AVTV service didn't have any presence at their friendly away to FC Groningen today.
