Normal service today on Free Radio 80s, with Tom Ross doing full commentary on Middlesborough v Birmingham, plus reports on the pre-season friendlies at Villa and West Brom.

Good to see that despite the rumours, Free Radio are carrying on with football. Only around half a dozen parts of the country now where an old school BBC/ILR football battle remains.

Still find it hard to believe that despite the modern day attractions of Sky, national radio and internet coverage in all its various forms, that the BBC has local football all to itself in London.

I did wonder if Westsound would have their own commentary team, but since I was at the game I couldn't check online (I'm in Dundee so only have access to Radio Tay via the airwaves).

Just a couple of things ref Bradford Park Avenue what does BCB stand for?

In my opinion I don't think radio commentaries makes any difference to attendances in the lower leagues.
How many times have you heard any one say,I must rush home to hear the radio commentary of XXXX
Maybe top flight teams although you might hear some one say I must get home
to watch YYYY
radio commentary is a dip in and dip out scenario(in my opinion)

travelling back through the East Midlands on saturday I heard Northampton v Mansfield
on FM103:2 RDS display said Mansfield

Bradford Community Broadcasting. A very small budget community station.

Bradford Community Broadcasting has a history of covering Bradford clubs in football and rugby league, as well as Yorkshire cricket. It doesn't jjust do commentaries, but also community features connected with the clubs. It has a very diverse schedule, which demonstrates its commitment to serving many different audiences within Bradford.

I think people do make a point of tuning into the radio for commentary on their teams, but usually because they can't get to matches rather than because it's ccheaper than going to matches. The onlhy exception to this is when fans organise boycotts..

Michael Gray contributed in-game analysis on numerous occasions during both halves. He and Sam Matterface are now presenting "Call Collymore" from Wembley Stadium.

At half-time, Sam confirmed that he'll be commentating on both of talkSPORT's live Premier League matches next weekend, but not with Stan Collymore. He'll be covering Arsenal v Crystal Palace on Saturday with Ray Wilkins and Liverpool v Southampton next Sunday with Ray Houghton.

Re: talkSPORT Live, those of you familiar with the international radio service will know that their commentaries are done off-tube from a dedicate floor in talkSPORT's London studios. However, for today's Community Shield their commentary team of Tom Rennie and Matt Lawrence were on-site at Wembley.

Sunday 10th August - Free Radio 80s

Tom Ross presenting The Goalzone from Molineux alongside Matt Murray and Andy Thompson

Championship
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Norwich City - Tom Ross, Matt Murray and Andy Thompson (4pm commentary)

To clarify a couple of things from Connor's post #106, both the Wolves game today and the Birmingham City game yesterday are/were being broadcast on FR80s' Birmingham, Black Country and Shropshire platforms. I believe they only carried half-time and full-time updates on the Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion friendlies (this was what Tom stated they'd be doing on the Friday Football Phone-In).

BBC Radio Norfolk

Rob Butler presenting Sport on BBC Radio Norfolk and Canary Call from Molineux alongside Jamie Cureton

Championship
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Norwich City - Chris Goreham and Jamie Cureton (4pm commentary)

This is also the Canaries Player commentary for the Norwich City official website. Meanwhile, Wolves Player are producing their own commentary service on the game with Mikey Burrows (Free Radio 80s, Sky Sports News Radio) and Chris Iwelumo. I'm 99% sure I'm right in saying that Wolves Player have consistently taken their commentaries from Free Radio 80s over the past couple of seasons.

5Live's coverage of the Community Shield between Arsenal and Man City yesterday was presented by Caroline Barker with commentary from John Murray and Brad Friedel with Tony Pulis providing occasional analysis.
In the Scottish Championship, Ian Turner provided updates on Rangers v Hearts. I'm afraid I don't know who was at the Wolves game though.

Thanks for a brilliant job in obtaining this weekends information, especially to the new faces (to me at any rate). I am out of commission at present (real life getting in the way) but should be back over the August Bank Holiday weekend to add my tuppence worth.
