I am not sure what point you are trying to make. Radio stations in England (and, to a lesser extent, Wales) have a national and local approach. With tonight's match, there is national coverage plus local coverage (BBC Radio Merseyside and City Talk for the Liverpool area and BBC Radio WM and Free Radio 80s for the Birmingham area).

In Scotland, it is possible to have two commentary teams for the Scottish Premiership (one being BBC Radio Scotland and one being the appropriate Bauer radio station or Central FM in the Falkirk area). Again, this is a national and local approach.
I should probably have quoted bwfcol's post from Friday to provide context:

I'm surprised BBC Scotland haven't had to reduce their commentary teams like 5Live!
The additional point I was making was that in England some games can have up to three BBC commentary teams - 5 Live and the two local stations. In Scotland, you generally only have one BBC commentary team which is why they can continue to have 3/4 people on one game.

Apologies for any confusion.

Everton v WBA
BBC Radio Five Live Conor McNamara and Robbie Savage (commentary)(commentary)
Surprised to hear Savage on this game as i thought it would have been a shoe-in for Kilbane given that he played for both teams. Anyway at least McNamara is a lot better commentator than the awful Matterface that i have had to suffer twice over the weekend.

Sunday 18th January - talkSPORT
As for the FA Cup, Saggers has just trailed their commentaries on the five UK-wide live TV games - but didn't mention Blackburn Rovers v Swansea City, the early Saturday BBC Wales game. The online schedules are yet to be updated, so the only personnel detail I know is that as talkSPORT's resident U Saggers will rightly be presenting their coverage of Cambridge United v Manchester United on Friday night. That and, as mentioned during Matchday Live yesterday, that Adrian Durham and Ian Danter will be leading their Saturday afternoon Fourth Round coverage from Birmingham City v West Bromwich Albion - which suggests they'll be doing Around the Grounds instead of a featured commentary game at 3pm, as they did on Third Round Saturday.
Cambridge v Man Utd - Sam Matterface and Matt Holland
Liverpool v Bolton - Sam Matterface and Ray Houghton
Bristol City v West Ham - Andrew McKenna and Alvin Martin
Brighton v Arsenal - Jim Proudfoot and Ray Parlour*
Rochdale v Stoke - Jim Proudfoot and Stan Collymore

*I think..

Chelsea v Liverpool - Sam Matterface and Danny Murphy
Sheffield United v Tottenham - Jim Proudfoot and Danny Higginbotham

Yes, the talkSPORT.com schedule has been updated today to list most of the above commentary teams for their FA Cup and League Cup Semi-Final Second Leg live games, barring the lead commentators at Bristol City and Brighton. Given Sam Matterface's ITV4 Africa Cup of Nations commitments, I think it's likely the Sunday games will be split between Jim Proudfoot and Andrew McKenna, probably in the order you suggest (I presume you've seen confirmation that Macca will be at Bristol City, which I've yet to see). It's notable that talkSPORT have split their FA Cup Third Round ties, Third Round Replays, League Cup Semi-Finals and seemingly their FA Cup Fourth Round ties very evenly between Sam and Jim - it'll be interesting to find out who gets to commentate on the final of each competition for them.

Additionally, trailers have confirmed that it will be the normal Saturday schedule this weekend, with The Warm Up airing prior to Matchday Live starting at its usual time of 1pm, rather than beginning earlier to include Swansea City v Blackburn Rovers commentary, with Around the Grounds from 3pm. Mark Saggers will be presenting from Cambridge United, Bristol City, Rochdale and all four League Cup Semi-Final legs, with Ian Danter hosting the second portion of Sunday Exclusive from the Amex Stadium, where he'll also be hosting Call Collymore alongside Ray Parlour between 6-8pm (meaning no Press Pass with Full Contact airing in its normal timeslot).

It looks like he's got Jan off maybe? Phil Wye said it was a mid season break

If he was back this weekend, he might be at Blackburn, Liverpool or Rochdale.

My bet would be Liverpool if he is back

On the first point talkSPORT could have a very good Super Sunday on League Cup Final day if Chelsea go through. That would give them a triple bill of Liverpool v City, Arsenal v Everton then the final. In that scenario I'd guess Sam at Anfield as the main PL commentator and Jim at Wembley.

On the second point is there obvious reason for them not to do commentary on Blackburn v Swansea? On paper it fits the favoured Cup criteria of lower league team at home to Premier League and the fact its not on TV surely makes it more attractive.

Finally news today that Mark Pougatch joins ITV to present Champions League and internationals. Jonathan Wall has tweeted that he will continue to host Saturdays for 5 Live but he will need replacing for some midweeks. Hopefully Mark Chapman will take over CL and England. A way off i know but looking forward to Euro 2016 I wonder who 5 Lives main presenter will be if Pougatch is with ITV and Chapman MOTD. Jonathan Overend seems to be the next football host but I don't think he's anywhere near the standard of the 2 Marks. Maybe they look elsewhere, maybe even a direct swap and have Chile's on 5 Live Sport? Or Matt Smith?

Thanks for the information about the Premier League games scheduled for League Cup Final day. I'd agree with your guesses, given that Jim Proudfoot has done all four of talkSPORT's League Cup commentaries prior to the semi-finals, it would be harsh not to give him the final, and with Sam Matterface being the station's main Premier League commentator you'd expect him to do every big PL game he's able to do - even if Liverpool make the final, Arsenal v Everton is a big enough game to compensate him for not doing the final.

Given how talkSPORT seem to be equally dividing out their domestic cup ties between Jim and Sam at the moment, if Jim was to get the League Cup Final then I could see Sam getting the FA Cup Final, given that there's no guarantee they'll be doing either the Champions League or Europa League Final. It'll also be interesting to see which co-commentators they use on League Cup Final day - Stan Collymore hasn't done a single League Cup commentary so far this season, but in past years I'm sure he's co-commentated on the final despite having no involvement in their coverage of the competition prior to then.

On the second point is there obvious reason for them not to do commentary on Blackburn v Swansea? On paper it fits the favoured Cup criteria of lower league team at home to Premier League and the fact its not on TV surely makes it more attractive.
I just think it's a case of talkSPORT deciding to stick rigidly to their usual Saturday afternoon schedule, with The Warm Up with Johnny Vaughan between 11am-1pm now an established lead-in to Matchday Live. Clearly it's not contractual, it's not as if they are limited to UK-wide TV games as they covered Tottenham v Burnley just last week and from previous seasons it wouldn't appear as if they have restrictions on the number of games they can cover as appears to be the case in the early rounds of the League Cup.

Personally I think it's a poor scheduling call, I would have like to have seen them cover Blackburn v Swansea - like you I think it looks like a very appealing game on paper and that not everyone will be able to watch it on TV gives them that bit more reason for covering it. While I'm all in favour of them doing Around the Grounds rather than a commentary at 3pm tomorrow - it's understandable that they'd want to stick with the format they use on a weekly basis, which is a big USP for them - they could have easily tinkered with their schedule to accommodate commentary on the early game while retaining The Warm Up, maybe by curtailing it by half an hour to end at 12.30pm or moving it forward an hour to 10am-midday by shaving an hour off the Weekend Sports Breakfast.

Maybe they look elsewhere, maybe even a direct swap and have Chile's on 5 Live Sport? Or Matt Smith?
I'd guess it'll be a straight swap between Pougatch and Chapman in Champions League and international weeks, maybe with Chapman yielding either the Monday or Friday edition of 5 Live Sport on those weeks to lighten his workload if it's deemed necessary. Bringing in Adrian Chiles and Matt Smith into 5 Live Sport would be a good move in my opinion, given the lack of early Premier League commentary games their Sunday sports coverage can be a bit uninspiring prior to 4pm on weekends when there isn't something like an F1 Grand Prix or international or European rugby union, so bringing in one of those two to give their studio programme a bit of spark prior to the commentary would be a good move in my opinion.

Thought a few of you would be interesting in hearing this clip. Last night on talkSPORT's Sports Bar show, prior to an interview with Lee Sharpe reflecting on the 20th anniversary of Eric Cantona's infamous kung fu kick at a Crystal Palace supporter at Selhurst Park, they played Jonathan Pearce's commentary on the incident for Capital Gold.

To hear the commentary, go here - http://talksport.com/radio/listen-again/1421964000# - then click the 23:30-00:00 tab and go to 02 minutes 35 seconds in.

Obviously with talkSPORT's parent company UTV Radio being a competitor to Global Radio (owners of most of the stations that were Capital Gold), I was surprised to hear Pearce's commentary being used - talkSPORT and The Sports Bar in particular, which has a nightly quiz that uses commentary clips, use a lot of archive commentaries from all three major UK TV football broadcasters and as such I'd have expected them to use the more famous one from Clive Tyldesley for Match of the Day. But it's interesting to listen to an example of Pearce from his mid-90s radio heyday and the sort of outspoken commentary that gained him such a reputation prior to his arrival on Channel 5.

Thanks for posting that! Fairly sure I would have been listening on the night but great to hear it again. I used to love it when Pearce went mental and all his little sayings. "Ready, Steady, Teddy..." as Sheringham stepped up to take a penalty was a particular favourite of mine. Capital Gold really had a top team at that time.

The talkSPORT commentary teams for tomorrow as posted by 4-4-2 in message #1254 have subsequently been confirmed on-air.

Just wanted to add how much I enjoyed talkSPORT's coverage of Cambridge United v Manchester United last night. I watched the game with the TV commentary on mute while listening and really enjoyed Sam Matterface and Matt Holland's commentary and particularly the presentation from Mark Saggers. It was really nice to hear Saggers going back to his roots, catching up with old friends in the build-up and getting the chance to cover the team he supports on one of their biggest nights for quite a while. He did a great job and managed to stay relatively neutral!

If anyone who caught talkSPORT's Football League show Up The League this morning was wondering who the George interviewing Port Vale manager Rob Page and his Crewe counterpart Steve Davis was, it was Signal 2's Stoke City commentator George Andrews. He's currently reporting on the Port Vale v Crewe Alexandra derby for Signal 2's Saturday Sport with Andy Jones and Jonty Sargeant in the absence of a Stoke City commentary.
