Let's be honest France were bad but Germany haven't been spectacular in this tournament either.

Just hope Benzema doesn't rock up at Arsenal this summer!

I thought Germany were poor, but France were terrible. Hummels was outstanding though.

I think Germany will get to the final, but lose to whoever comes from the other side.

I have been favouring a Germany v Holland final with Germany being battered in revenge for 1974.

Germany's 20th major semi final (World cups and European championships).

England have only been to 4....
and to think they had a barren period that made them re-think how they can develop their players and restructure the German FA.

All while England stand still.

20?! Twenty?! That is a brilliant record.
World cups:
1934, 1954, 1958, 1966, 1970, 1974, 1982, 1986, 1990, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014

European championships:
1972, 1976, 1980, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2008, 2012

All the those tournaments they reached the semi final or better.

Me too!!!! That would be my ultimate fantasy. I just hope Holland don't underestimate Costa Rica.

Thank the dinosaurs at the FA for this, too stuck in our ways.

Have to admire the Germans' record in major tournaments.

I think he's quite cute actually. But Hummels is still super gorgeous.

Neuer won't be beaten.

Ochoa and Navas have rightly had a lot of praise during the WC (me included) but Neuer is the best gk out there. Admittedly I don't watch Bundesliga but in internationals and the Champions League I cannot recall any high profile mistakes when the likes of Buffon, Casillas, Hart, Cech have.

Neuer made quite a few for Schalke. However, I would say he is the best goal keeper in the world at the moment.

Although he hasn't exactly been challenged by the French. I would like to see Neuer against the Dutch.

Hope France learns a lesson that they have to be more determined.

I'd like Brazil to win as it would be apt if they did, but it's up to the gods.

He didn't even have to bring his broom. He could have brought his iPad and read news on it for most of the game.

France did know this was a World Cup Quarter-Final, right?
Poor, poor, poor by France. A miserable end indeed!

You missed a bit out, I've corrected it for you

I can't remember any high-profile mistakes since the German Cup final 2 years ago where he basically gifted Dortmund the trophy. His level for both Bayern and Germany since then has been incredible.

France were always a bit of a paper tiger for me coming into this. People were raving about the prowess of their offence, primarily a result of their flurry of goals against Switzerland. But through the group stages and their match against Nigeria they had not really been tested. Honduras, Switzerland, Ecuador, and Nigeria is not exactly the gauntlet of courage is it? In contrast, I could see Portugal and Ghana advancing from that group had they been drawn there.

I agree. Can run in behind not just have his back to defenders.

Thought the first half was just building up to be a classic in the 2nd - what disappointment to see the game fizzle out into a typical French farce in the end ... the French have gone out with barely a whimper.

Lawrenson & Pearce didn't perform too brilliantly either it has to be said. Pearce can trot out all the trivia and stats you like but he still hasn't grasped the basic laws of the game and Lawro was just his normal sarcastic self ...

Terrible performance by France, guess they didn't watch how the USA played the other day when they went behind against Belgium

God, that was awful.

Did the French players realise this wasn't a ruddy friendly?. They had all the urgency of a corpse, and by the last 20mins I wondered if they were bothered at all....

Hope tonight's is better...
