SIM only contract - handset restrictions?
Sorry for my ignorance but I have a fantastic SIM only contract with one of the big providers. I pay £8.50 per month for 900 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mg data.
Do you know if there are restrictions of the type of handset I could use? For example, (not that I'm going to!) what would happen if I put the SIM card in something like an i-phone? Would it work? I need to buy a new handset and keep the existing great deal, but are there handsets that the card wouldn't work with? Thanks |

It will work with any handset.
Just bear in mind that the handset may need to be unlocked first before this can be done. For example, a Vodafone SIM card will not work in an iPhone locked to O2. O2 would need to unlock the device first. You need to buy an unlocked handset or a handset that is locked to your current network to be able to use your SIM. Also, if you're with Three then you'll need to use your phone in a 3G phone. So any modern phone really. |

You may actually need a new sim card. As newer phones have micro sims. But the network will just give you one. Won't affect your contact.

Right thanks, very helpful.
So, in effect I could use a top of the range handset for my existing £8.50 a month (on the same network)? I accept that my allowance probably wouldn't get me far if I tried to use more data. |

So long as you download & update your apps and things over WiFi it will be plenty. The handset needs to not be locked to another network. That is all. |

for what it's worth, i've got the original virgin vip sim only deal with unlimited minutes, texts and data and i get it for £10 a month. i've used it in an iPhone 4s and recently in an iPhone 5 without a single issue.
If all goes to plan, i'll be getting a 5s next year and hopefully i'll continue to use the sim on that as well. |
