Hi there. After using countless data calculators I'm still no further decided in what amount of data will be suitable for me. The data calculators seem to contradict themselves which hasn't helped. I'm a casual user and use my tablet for video streaming and hefty downloads mainly though I may view a few clips when out and about. The main things I would use my data for when out would be social network sites, browsing the web and occasionally GPS. Would I be able to get by with 500mb? Thanks for any advice.

You might get away with it but you would likely need monitor how much data you are using each month on your phone. Or are we talking data for your tablet here as slightly confused.

Zee see that is the thing that threw me i wasn't sure if he was referring to using his tablet as main data thing and then phone for occasional stuff.

how long is that piece of string ??

I went from a restrictive 1gb tarrif where i would carefully use only the more basic functions to an unlimited tarrif on Three.

In the last month I have used just under 4gb.

My breakdown over the last month was:
1gb tethering (used my phone to stream a world cup match whilst i was in work late supporting implementation)
721mb Google Play Music (all access)
717mb chrome (downloading some ROMs)
321mb Facebook - I manage a couple of FB pages too
306mb Play Store (im now not bothered where and when i perform updates)
93mb using TVCatchup - watching TV sat in the car while kids did their out of school activities
50mb - stumbleUpon
44mb - twitter
40mb - Google Search
35mb - ticketmaster

etc......

None of those were vital but I reckon that Ive paid for a smartphone and to have limited data means your use would be limited.

In my opinion 500mb is VERY restricted.

You dont really know how much you can use your phone until you remove the data caps .....

Totally agree. When I left O2 they tried to argue that I was using under my 1GB allowance. As I explained to them, it was because I'd been constantly aware of not downloading big files, not watching loads of video etc. Now I have unlimited, I use my phone how I want without worry.

It's probably worth pointing out that with higher available speeds on 4G, you'll want to do more, download bigger files, watch more video, because on higher speeds you can!

When you say you use your tablet for streaming and hefty downloads I presume you also mean that this is for your phone? I think that threw everyone.

If you don't stream or download when you're not on Wi-Fi then 500meg will be fine.
