Could this Christmas song now be banned due to a Rolf Harris reference.

Are you saying it's a pity that Michael Jackson wasn't convicted or that Rolf Harris was convicted?

The legal argument is about artists getting repeat fees whilst in prison, so showing or playing "Two Little boys" would be an issue - having a reference to the song in charity single for Comic Relief should not be.
Why should Comic relief miss out on a repeat fee just because of one line that was a joke in the first place.
If they Mel and Kim were "saluting" Harris or something then that would be unacceptable.

Obviously Savile is a completely different kettle of fish, although never convicted of anything, there were many victims, so seeing his face on TV would be upsetting.

Recently Abba the Movie was not shown on SKY Arts due to the lead actor (who played the journalist) being convicted of child sex offences in Australia last year.

Where do you draw the line ?
Can BBC news not show archive footage of Thatcher or Kinnock speaking in Parliament as you can see Grevill Janner or Cyril Smith on the backbenches behind them ??

nope..... im saying that like others of my generation, we liked rolf, and its a pity he has been found guilty of being a pervy paedo. ( whilst a lot of us didnt like savile, so was no great loss ) .

Personally, I don't really care about convicted criminals collecting PRS and think it's a crime that certain good songs are wiped from history because of their writer's crimes. Another Rock and Roll Christmas, for example, is great and should still be played. That said, I don't think Rolf even wrote TLB so he doesn't really benefit from it being played anyway not that I would care if he did.

Yeah, they'll just snip out the Rolf reference in future.

Wonder are there any songs with Bill Cosby or Jerry Sandusky references in
them?

Channel 4 had no problem showing Ferris Bueller's day off last night starring a convicted sex offender and a double killer.

Exactly - so many double standards.

I would say that if the offences were not carried out in the UK then a movie/ video can be shown.

Historical events cannot be airbrushed just because there happens to be a sex offender in a crowd behind the speaker - as in Parliamentary proceedings.

The KLF song "Kylie Said To Jason" contains a Rolf reference and I have heard it played on BBC 6 Music since Mr Harris has been a resident of Stafford.

The same goes for "Doctorin' the Tardis" which Mr Gadd has a writing credit on.

You can't just go about erasing everything with a vague connection to these evil people.

Danny Baker's Christmas Hits (shown on Pick and Sky Arts on Christmas Day) played Rockin Around the Christmas Tree, thumbs-up to Rolf uncensored. Presumably it's so well-known that Mel and Kim's version contains the Two Little Boys reference, it was felt that omitting it would be more noticeable than not.

My own preference is the route that sites like TV Cream have taken - if something's 'archive', i.e. it existed pre-Yewtree and is an innocuous, non-offensive reference that doesn't make needless fun of a given victim or event, then just leave it as-is and people will recognise it comes from a different time. Sure, keep recent developments in mind when producing new content, but let the record stand where it stands.

Look at all the hoo-hah here on DS and elsewhere when potentially-mildly-offensive sequences are excised from The Simpsons, for instance, or the fuss every year over whether TV and radio stations will 'clean up' Fairytale of New York or let it fly (thankfully most airings of Fairytale I've been tuned into this year have left 'bum' and the rest untouched...)
