Data/Wireless
Just about to set up a 4G data plan (4G is new in my resident country).
However, 4G here is very expensive & most of the time I'm in a wifi environment. Question: is it possible to set up a phone such that it only uses the 4G mobile network for internet access when there is no wifi available, thus minimising data usage? I can't see how to do this in phone settings (Blu Life Play)..... So, is there an Android app? |

I've not heard of that phone, but most (if not all?) smart phones will choose wifi over the mobile network automatically.

Have wifi and mobile data switched on at the same time, you shouldn't need an app.

I used my smartphone in a Wi Fi enviroment, selecting the Wi Fi & "connecting" even thou I had data switched "OFF", it still used "Data" (PAYG).
I did eventually get my money back (with Virgin its £1 minimum.& they switched off Data at their end) so obviously all Phones dont "Automatically" go to Wi Fi (Moto G). |

If mobile data is turned off, it can't be using it!
May have just been a billing error - billing you for stuff downloaded over wifi, by mistake. |

All the reviews I can find for that handset say is doesn't have LTE (4G)
However the 4G thing is irrelevant. Doesn;t matter whether you are on 2G, 3G or 4G it's still going to cost you money if it uses cellular data instead of WiFi. However, it is an Android handset so it is going to do what all other smartphones do. It will select the cheapest option first (WiFi) if it's available. As to how you know. You will have the WiFi symbol showing in the status bar. |

What can happen is the WiFi gets switched off to save battery, when in standby. Trouble with some PAYG deals is even if a few bytes gets transferred over cellular before WiFi wakes up again you get charged a minimum of £1 per day. On many phones you can just switch of mobile data to stop that.

First thing to note is that the Blu Life Play does not have 4G LTE.
