Is a colour adjustment possible?
Joddle

I just bought a really cheap 32" TV from Tesco - its badged as a Blaupunkt and was just under £150 (reduced on special offer) so I was not expecting too much from it.

When I got it home I was surprised to find I could record to USB as well as having half HD (720). and when I first turned it on I was not surprised that the colour was a little off compared with my much more expensive plasma set - yet it was perfectly watchable and as its only a fill in for a summer home I was not too worried.

However when I later connected either a USB recoding from a HDD or a sat box via the scart input the colour was very very much improved - in fact I would say almost perfect - so the question. Is it possible to tweak the colour from just the receiver part? I suspect not but it would be great to have the set totally consistent.

Most TV's have individual adjustments for each of the inputs. You should be able to adjust the tuner settings without affecting the usb settings,

Thanks but the tint control seems to be blanked out in TV mode and I dont want to change it for the other inputs which are all fine.

The tint control may be disabled in tuner mode because the manufacturer doesn't think it necessary for the tuner source. Have to say on my telly the best position for the tint control is zero, ie doing nothing.

All it seems to do is vary flesh tones from seasick to sunburnt. It certainly does not make anyone look any better.

Adjusting the tint on the other inputs won't affect the tuner. it might make the other input look more like the tuner but that is all.

Just use the colour, brightness and contrast controls and whatever other controls there are.

Tint control only works for a NTSC analogue input on any TV I have ever seen, analogue PAL or Digital does not require it. (hence the fact that it's not available).

It will have zero effect on a digital TV source, either from an external source or the TV tuners. (I have never seen a UK TV that offers tint control for a analogue TV source). It does not exist for digital video sources.

Basically the joke is NTSC is Never The Same Colour Twice (Hence the totally obsolete tint option for any broadcast source in the UK)

First off it's not 'half HD', nor is it 720 resolution - it's an HD Ready set, and will be 768 pixels resolution, perfectly fine for HD (and you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference with a Full HD set).

There's unlikely to be anything much in the way of colour adjustments, it's probably mostly down to the different colour gamuts, and Plasma has a poor colour gamut anyway, even poorer than CRT sets had. But it's almost certain the set has LED back lighting, and (in my opinion) LED gives a poorer gamut than did CCFL back lighting.

Mostly though it's down to 'what you're used to' you're used to your Plasma, and this set looks different.
