Shouldn't be scrapped, nearly all sports have a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, so I don't see much difference in a major World sporting tournament like the World Cup.

BIB - because you are 3rd best in the world rather than 4th best? Like I said, it was a big deal to Croatia, Turkey and Germany in 2006 because they felt like they at least ended their campaign on a win rather than a devastating loss in the semis.
No one forces people to watch the match, so I don't really understand why it's necessary for it to be scrapped If you don't like it, don't watch it. That goes for all football matches.P.S. Since you are Dutch, I'm going to let you off on this one, as I'm a big Dutch supporter (if Italy are out of the tournament) and Dutch fans are the best in the world anyway Holland deserve their first World Cup win. It's not going to be easy against Argentina or Germany, but I think they can just about do it.As for the playoff 3rd/4th place, it is rather a pointless match, but it is an extra game of football to see. |

Van Gaal has slammed FIFA for not scrapping it. Robben and Sneijder have already stated that they aren't interested in the match at all. I hope FIFA finally starts to listen and scrap this, nobody cares about who finished third or fourth. Just scrap the match and mark both semi final losers as "joint 3rd", not a single team/player and not many fans will miss the match.
Now we are in it, I want Van Gaal to just play the reserves who have played the least amount of games so far and give them a run out. I don't care whatsoever whether we win or lose on Saturday. |

I don't see the point in playing it myself. If I was a player on the losing team in the semi, the last thing I would want to do is play another match which is basically a glorified friendly.
Does anyone else think it should be scrapped in 2018? |

Absolutely it's completely pointless, the players just want to go home, there will be no intensity in the game at all as neither team cares about it.
