Well, I haven't heard from her so the lamb casserole will remain outside her domain.

Great post. See also Sharon. She left with money from her house, the Vic, the bookies. She returned reliant on unsuitable blokes for cash. Did she blow it all in Vegas?

Mick needed £10,000 for the rising damp, but it didn't occur to him to sell his car which would have raised at least half the cash. It's not as if he needs it to get to work. Then he not only has the rising damp fixed, he refurbishes, redecorates and refurnishes the place. After that he has the outside painted and tiled and a new sign painted. Having spent the £10,000 3 times over he finds out he needs to pay it back, but instead of taking himself off to the bank (or selling the car) he leaves it to Shirley to sort out.

And the bloke who sold him the gaffe with the undisclosed rising damp continues to sup in his boozer and was never chased for the debt!!

TBF He should have had the place surveyed before he bought it, or is that the responsibility of the seller still....I don't think Mick even got a receipt for the money. Another thing...if he'd taken out a mortgage on the place it wouldn't have been a cash transaction, so he could raise money on the property without any difficulty.

I don't know why I give myself a headache over these things.

EastEnders writers are like children when they try and grasp the concept of money, it's always been utterly ridiculous. Large chunks come from no where (Phil Mitchell) whilst the bloody Butcher/Jacksons always seem to be skint.

It's boring, and it's tedious, and one of the worst things about EastEnders IMO. Always has been. The way they treat the value of money is a joke..

Sharon I can actually understand as there was the recession during her time away and given she'd spent at least some of the time living in America, if she invested heavily in property over there she could have taken a massive hit in 2007/2008. She might also have made some very dodgy investment decisions whilst zonked out of her brain on her prescription meds - or even spent a lot on them getting them illegally. It's also possible that she does have shares that will rise in value in time but currently aren't worth as much as she paid for them in 2006.

They should have referenced it though.

Roxy I do think it is important to know whether that figure given for her inheritance (was it 3 million) was his entire estate (comprising the properties and businesses) or cash. If it was cash with everything else on top it is incredible that she got through it. If however the cash was only part of it I can see how she went through a lot of it. Diidn't she give loads to Danny? She paid for all Jacks rehhab which we were told was something like 20k a week, paid for R+R to be refitted out after the fire that the Insurance wouldn't cover - that's some hefty expenditure. It is hard to stomach that much going in 10 months and why didn't she just sell something but I can see where some of it went.

Money matters do drive me up the wall in general in Soaps (and EE especially) though.

That whole thing was utterly ridiculous. Ridiculous that Mick wouldn't have had a survey done and ridiculous that Alfie wouldn't have mentioned it to any prospective buyers and estate agents given he must have noticed it and was desperate to stay. Fair enough he never met Mick to tell him but we saw him with other people viewing the property with him present.

Money storylines are getting boring and slightly ridiculous considering in soaps the requirements are for the residents to visit either a pub, cafe or restaurant in order to interact with other people.

Which wasn't even her money, it was Carol's.

And we're supposed to feel sorry for her because she was crying as she told Carol she'd spent the 20 quid for the necklace on the kids.

Why the hell didn't Carol take the engagement ring (which David probably paid a lot for given he was flush at the time) to a reputable jewelers rather that Mo (who defrauded her own family don't forget) and Fat bloody Elvis?

What is even more strange is Bianca had apparently borrowed £3000 and spent it all in the short time since David left?

I assume everything was up to date and running fine when David was around, so in those few weeks, Bianca has managed to feel like she needs £3000, borrows it, spends it (on who knows what) and there suddenly broke and selling jewellery and toys etc all in the last few weeks.

The people of Walford need to realise they live in LONDON and can actually leave there tiny square to look for work!! It's ridiculous!! The likes of Billy and Alfie both desperately need to provide yet won't look beyond the local chippy or market!!

Yes - that is the biggest SOR of this particular storyline - that David was living there and covering all their bills up until the beginning of June so Bianca has got herself into this mess in only 4 or 5 weeks. For her to be behind in the loan repayments this quickly she must have taken it out the day after David left and what was she paying off when he'd covered everything? Unless she'd run up credit card bills or something that he didn't know about prior to that. Or he wasn't actually paying all the bills but why wasn't that mentioned at the time when he was splashing cash on expensive rings, dresses, honeymoons - why the hell didn't Bee say 'oi, we're 6 months behind on the Leccy, Gas, council Tax and need the money for that". He wasn't suffering from Cancer was he.

Plus, Sonia was covering all of Carol's shifts till then as well so they weren't losing out financially there either. No, it's not going to pull in much money but it was no less than they were getting before Carol got sick.

It really is down to the writing. Bianca and Billy must always be destitute, even when there are several adults in the family working and they never have anything to show for the money they seem to have been throwing around. On the other hand Phil, Ian and Sharon can be broke one day and a few days later have houses, businesses, fancy cars and fly off on holidays to America and Portugal. It's the Law.

Anything to do with Philth's 'invincibilty' is now stupid, totally preposterous, and beyond belief.

Mick could, would and should have laid the bastard spark out.

Surely Mick has legal rights concurred from giving Phil a holdall of notes in the middle of the night?

Yes, no receipt and Phil didn't even check the money.

Great post and yes Sharon being caught up in the financial crash would have made perfect sense. Stupid not to reference it though. Roxy I've given up on as it makes my head hurt.

I live in London and it's about £6.30 for a large glass of wine and £5.20 for a cider - Rekordlig - from the pubs around by me. It's got to the point where I now pre-drink before I even go to the pub....

I've given up even thinking about where the Mitchell's clan cash comes from or goes to at this point. But for the life of me, I don't understand how Mick, who has had children since he was about 5 years of age it seems, managed to save £850,000 in order to buy the Vic?? If he had actually gotten a mortgage for that amount, which I doubt he would qualify for, he would have had to have a survey done and wouldn't be carrying around a bag of cash to pay for it. Who in their right mind would do that anyway?

Then, after obviously scrimping and scraping for his whole entire life couldn't manage a measly £10,000 for the silly rising damp s/l!

The whole buying of the Vic s/l was so badly written anyway it just beggar's belief! As if anyone would buy a pub without a survey and at Christmas as well was just stupid. If the writers had brains they'd be dangerous!!

I just watched a clip of the will reading and it was 3 million in cash. The solicitor said that outstanding tax, death duties and legal fees would have to be deducted though. Inheritance tax would have been 40% on most of that so she wouldn't have even got 2 mil, but still a ridiculous amount of money to burn through in 10 months.
