Yes, Carlos Velasco Carballo, one of Spain's top refs. Apparently he's very strict but word is that FIFA warned refs not to be too strict. I can understand this because an entertaining even game can be ruined by a borderline red card. But there were tackles yesterday like Zuniga's that deserved a straight red. Just hope a FIFA panel will act retrospectively.
BIB. Well, I cant "understand" it at all. The WHOLE point of the refs job is to ensure the rules of the game are upheld, ANY interference in this job is tantamount to corruption.

I would rather see a player sent off after a minute, than see the disgrace that touted itself as a world cup quarter final that was played yesterday.

Only when the brown baggers of FIFA and UEFA get it into their greedy little pea brains that pitch discipline is essential to good football will we see cheating such as simulation and ridiculous fouling reduced in the game.

I'm more inclined to think he was a hometown ref and was trying to help the Brazilians win. There were at least two fouls by Brazil in the first half that were clearly very nasty ones and 100% merited a yellow card, they weren't 50-50 decisions and yet he merely awarded a free kick each time, which makes me think he had an agenda.

It looks like Howard Webb will be refereeing the final again.

I think even codeblue would be impressed with the level of overreaction on show in this thread.

Some journalists reporting on twitter that Fifa's disciplinary committee are looking in to the incident which led to Neymar's injury and considering whether action might be taken against Zuniga.

And if it was a Columbian stretchered off, FIFA would have done bugger all.

While they are at it, are they going to look to reverse any of the refs cr@p decisions that led directly to the foul and ruining the match?.

Of course not. They are playing to the Brazilian's tune, pure and simple.

Ref and officials were terrible, Ref didn't go back to the dressing room till after about 80 minutes to pick his cards up, if he'd brought them out at the start, he could have shown a few.

Well according to Sky Sports News, the Neymar tackle is dominating local TV and radio. Hard for FIFA officials to not investigate if they're being constantly pestered about it by the media.

Oh come on! They are hardly comparable. Neymar got a knee in the back and rolled about in his usual fashion. Quoting from a report at the time "Battiston fell to the ground unconscious, with damaged vertebrae and teeth knocked out, later slipping into a coma. Emergency medics had to administer oxygen on the pitch." Can you see the difference?
Yes but that doesn't mean that Neymar's injury was also not serious. He arrived in hospital with broken vertebrae and on a drip, all because of a tackle.

The injury was serious but the tackle was just a bad one, not an assault like the Batiston one. The worst injuries can come from the most innocuous tackles.

First they have to prove it was caused by the tackle and not his subsequent writhing around, been thrown into a hard plastic tray and then being jiggled about as they ran off the pitch with him.
I watched the tackle in real time and listened to all the pundits on TV, not one condemned the tackle as being that bad? It's marvellous being able to do so in hindsight.

Sad for him. Want to see the best players playing in the WC. Poor challenge by the Colombian on him but Brazil can't complain after kicking Rodriguez constantly.

Ironically the favourite is supposed to be an Brazilian!

They might go for the Dutch guy who did the Champions league final whilst Webb does a semi final..

If the Netherlands don't get to the final of course!

It will be hard for him to play at his best if he has to have his back immobilised for two weeks!

I'm surprised the Brazilian president hasnt demanded the final be put back until he is fit enough to play!

Oh come on, Zuniga barely touched him, the injury was just deserts for Brazil's dirty tactics, disgraceful team and country. I suspect the whole world will be cheering on Germany in the semi.

I bet they're glossing over the fact that Brazil carried out 34 fouls.....it was that that led to Neymar's injury

Well, having a ref that may as well have been wearing a Brazil shirt didn't help....

They have just confirmed Neymar does not need surgery he just needs a period of rest!!!

So can we all stop the over reacting and outrage & move on and enjoy the rest of the tournament!!,

The trouble is there is so much rolling around that real serious injuries like neymars get missed. No doubt neymar might have sustained further injury in the way he was moved.

It's no laughing matter, but the way you put it was .........

Their stretchers look like some sort of plastic bucket, and the way they were holding it and jogging with poor Neymar lying flat out in it, could only have done more damage to his spine.

I couldn't believe they did not put him in a neck brace and stabilise his spine, before gently putting him a motorised trolley to take him from the pitch.
Yes. They are very careful when they remove NFL players after incidents.
