Even more amazing* is that all 7 goals were from open play. No corner, free-kick or penalty goals. And against 11 men rather than 10 or 9.
*Sorry if this has already bee pointed out

*Sorry if this has already bee pointed out ![]() That tells us that Germany were in absolutely sensational form and delivered the most devastating performance.....Brazil may well have gotten a result against anyone else in the tournament or lost only narrowly at worst. |

No player is bigger than the team. No-one. But I have to agree with what others have said, you'd thought that Neymar was dead instead of injured. [/b]We're they more concerned about Neymar then the record-breaking German team assembled against them tonight? It seemed like it. When a team relies on one player that much, adores one player that much....well, you're asking for trouble. And Brazil got it tonight in spades. Too much Neymar. Too much emotion. Too many tears. Too much pressure. Tonight Brazil imploded. And I didn't feel any sympathy for them. That begun to evaporate from me after they kicked Columbia (and James Rodriguez in particular) off the pitch and then had the nerve to moan about Neymar being hunted. The Neymar shirt tribute was the final straw for me. Good job, Germany. Good job. Very well said. I thought that whole charade was pathetic. David Luiz was the stand-in captain & you'd have thought he was another disciple in the church of Neymar. |

Well, clearly they are nothing without Neymar. No wonder the nation adores him. I don't believe Argentina would get to the semi finals without Messi, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't lose 1:7 to any team.

I remember watching them, including Messi, lose 6-1 to Bolivia, probably as close as it'll get.

But check out the official match stats, they're a real eye opener : Brazil 8 shots on target to Germany's 10, Brazil 7 corners to Germany's 5 and Brazil 52% possession to Germany's 48%.
That tells us that Germany were in absolutely sensational form and delivered the most devastating performance.....Brazil may well have gotten a result against anyone else in the tournament or lost only narrowly at worst. Side A produces 20 pathetic shots from the half-way line that dribble towards the goal at one mile an hour. They have totally ineffectual possession back and forth across their back four for 60% of the game before regularly losing the ball whenever they venture into attacking areas (are you England in disguise). Side B sits back, keeps a perfect defensive shape, waits for side A to give up possession - or else their sitting midfielders win the ball whenever side A moves within touching distance of thier 18-yard line. They then control midfield with rat-a-tat one-touch possession and scythe through side A's defense with alarming regularity. They have 10 shots on goal including some howitzers from 20 yards out that rattle the woodwork. Side B wins 5-0 but side A have far better statistics. Statistics can be very useful but you have to analyse them carefully. I saw some people earlier in the thread make a similar point to yours about Brazil's shots on target. However if you look at the game again, a number of those were largely hopeful shots that would never have beaten a keeper like Neuer in a million years. |

No it doesn't - rather it demonstrates that football statistics have to be carefully taken in context. Here's an example of misleading statistics.

People are suggesting that Brazil were abysmal beyond belief but I've a feeling an identical performance against any other team in the tournament would not have resulted in a 7-1 defeat or anything close to it.....in fact I don't think they were too far below where they were against Chile and Colombia (which was not great for starters). |

The only three national teams ever to concede five goals in one half during the World Cup Finals: Zaire Haiti Brazil via @History_Futbol Just preposterous. Last edited by The Turk : 09-07-2014 at 23:41. Reason: Realised I meant the 1982 world cup |

Didn't El Salvador once lost 10-1 to Hungary in one of the 70s world cups? For that to have happened would've required El Salvador to concede at least five goals in at least one half of that match, in which case they should be added to that list above too.

Only 3 scored in the first half. I wonder if the tweet meant first half?

Might / should make no difference to his performance for PSG. After all Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard et al are shit for England and yet they perform for their clubs.
Maybe PSG could have Chelsea under the ‘Distance Selling Regulations’. |

Could be quite dramatic if Brazil are losing by more than 1 goal at any point. If brazil lose there is a serious possibility this may be the last game of tournament if serious riots break out and safety is threatened. We could hear riot noises for example or have a pitch invasion and see protestors behind the windows of the studios and perhaps even the studio be evacuated or worse.

With the defence though, I guess nothing could have shored that up without Silva unless they just got 8 or 9 behind the ball at all times. |
