It's like fancying your mum. It's messed up, and it's going to lead to a lot of people who have mental health issues to be bullied and wrongly castigated at work and in school for probably being ' a bit like Dean'. ”

Well, seeing as EE explicitly had Phil sleeping with his "Auntie Glenda" (not a blood relative) and full-on incestuous relationship between first cousins Joey and Lauren, I doubt it will be too controversial.

Where are you getting the "mother figure" stuff from? That may be how Lynda sees herself (regarding Dean as a contemporary of her kids) but there's no evidence that Dean sees their relationship in that way.

According to soap squawk Danny and Kellie Bright who play Mick and Linda carter said they are not allowing their characters to cheat.

It's easy to fall for someone you shouldn't (I am talking morally rather than legaly here) and it's not the first time a soap has done this sort of storyline. Yes it does seem a little bit more creepy than usual but that's because Dean is not in a good frame of mind. I think he is not used to someone being so nice to him, Linda is a person who shows a lot of warmth which Dean is attracted too.

it is (maybe) possible TPTB r laying the groundwork for a rape storyline with dean as the culprit. with him thinking consent is not needed. it would b interesting and would fit in with matt's comments about where his storyline was going. a dark and gritty storline what EE do so well. Tosh could b the victim followed at a later stage by denise. denise could take dean to court and win. dean goes back to prison and goes on rule 43 with mr. harris for company. tosh could then suicideas she cant cope and tina could wind up in the lips and arms of Sonia and her trumpet.

I don't see the fuss OP because like it's been said before, people sleep with their brothers partner all the time in real life sadly. Even the iconic footballer Ryan Giggs was fixated with his brother's wife for years. While it's morally wrong, it's not like it's something unheard off and unrealistic sadly and because Dean is meant to be a weird and damaged potential villain it's going to work for him and I'm personally loving the storyline. It's creepy, sleazy and a little uncomfortable but I like it a lot!

One thing I hope doesn't happen is Linda responding well to his advances. I love Mick and Linda's happy marriage and I honestly can say that I don't want that to change.

I agree with this.

I got very disgusted in the scene in the hairdressers when Dean was massaging Linda's head.

Are these kinds of warped sexual advances the thing EE wants to make a story about?

There will certainly be a media backlash, akin to the baby swap storyline.”

What a load of tosh!

EastEnders need to start doing these stories again!

I'm really looking forward to see where this storyline goes. With whatever happens, I just hope that Dean will be able to stay around.

I just don't get this disgust thing people are bandying about. Can they elaborate more?

I don't get it. Murder is fine, but having a bit of a crush on your sister-in-law is wrong? Mother figure? He hardly knew her until recently and they barely interact now. You must be joking with this. Your last line is too ridiculous to believe.

Totally agree

Can't believe how much I like Dean now than when he was in it before...........

As I've said before on other posts, this could be so much better than just the usual predictable love triangle, where we all know how it all pans out.
I'm deliberately not reading the spoilers as I really want to keep the suspense going!

I thought the first hug between them was very original, and I think the only way Linda will respond to him is if she's forced to. Due to blackmail etc.
I also would like Mick and Lindas marriage to stay intact, and imo they are one of the very few soap couples that have true chemistry together.

I don't think it'll be anything as bad as the dead baby swap. However personally I think it's the worst story DTC has come up with and I understand why Matt didn't want to do it.

Phil shagged his Aunt and now they've got Dean wanting to do his I just don't know what they're thinking of!

For me Carols breaking Bad storyline was worse than Dean's.

OH-and Max & the policewoman. That has been the worst under DTC's tenure for me.
You could've put flags & bunting out for that sl it was so obvious.

I actually don't mind Max/Emma, though I agree she shouldn't be putting her career at risk.

I don't think Dean will rape Linda, at least not any time soon, for the simple reason that I don't think his infatuation with her is the end product of this storyline, and if he was to rape her then it would completely overshadow anything else he was to do while on EE.

While I've no doubt that Dean's story arc will basically be that of a villain, and he will eventually leave the show having wreaked a lot of trouble (which isn't to say he can't be redeemed through exploring his psychological issues) his real story will always be tied up to his relationship with Shirley. That's why he was brought back, to explore their relationship and why he has so much resentment towards her, and why she was such a poor mother to him.

What I do think we'll see a lot of is Dean causing trouble for the Carters in various ways. Now that he's trying things on with Linda, she isn't going to be so eager to invite him into the family fold as she has previously, and the others are probably a little bit more wary of him than she has been. So Dean will perceive the Carters to be the perfect, unobtainable family that he never experienced, and when he finds out that Mick is actually his brother I can see his jealousy growing even stronger. If they gave him the cold shoulder then I can see him developing a sort of scorched earth policy and just taking them all down in any way he sees possible.

I hope the storyline goes this way instead of making him a rapist and limiting his potential as a character.

A first cousin relationship is not incestuous and perfectly legal in the UK.

Hopefully this storyline will expedite the characters exit.
