My Technika LCD22-208 Tv/DVD has finally given up the ghost. It has been behaving erratically for some time, and now there is no power coming through (no red standby light) I know it is a cheap model, but it suited my needs at the time, I wanted a TV that took up less space than the old 'square box' TV, mind you, that worked perfectly for 23 years and was still working fine when I gave it away. The DVD on the Technika stopped working within months of purchase, but the TV has been fine, i don't want high technology or anything big, the 19inch screen suits me fine. I have read other posts on this thread and having an integrated DVD doesn't seem to be very popular, although i still wouldn't mind having one. I just want something similar to what I already have, but would like it to last a bit longer!

Avoid the cheap and nasty supermarket own brands, like Technika. Chances are anyway that models at that end of the market all come out of the same factory with just a different badge on the front and makers name on the box. So by and large they are all as good,or bad, as each other.

Above the budget end of the market are LG and Samsung. Sony and Panasonic are often cited as the top makes. Always assuming you can find something that small. Almost seems these days that 32in is considered tiny

OK thanks for that, I'll give Panasonic a go, I quite like their cordless phone.

Thanks for that, looks good, the worst thing about having to replace anything is choosing the replacement. The viera looks good and Amazon have free delivery on it, the feedback there is very positive too.

My grandson and daughter have the 32" version. The picture quality is excellent.

I would imagine there's probably no resemblance between the two sets? - 24's are normally completely different to 32's.

What ever you get this time if something stops working within a few months Take It Back.
You have statutory rights under the Sale of Goods Act.

Yeah, I know I could have taken it back, but I didn't have any transport at the time. Reading feed back on the Tesco site on this model, someone said that they had had their TV collected when it became faulty, wish I'd known that was an option.

A local TV Engineer is going to have a look at it, to see if a repair is viable.

Bit off topic, but as I am now watching my favourite TV progs online, I wonder if anyone knows if it is possible to watch the Drama channel online? I have found the Drama site, but can't see a link to watching progs.

Generally there's no spares available, and even if a DVD mech was, it's likely to be much too expensive.

It was collected today and i forgot to mention the DVD section not working, almost forgot it was there :-/
Have been having an email conversation with Technika customer service and after describing the fault, they think a repair is viable. So we shall see.
Thanks for all replies.

Interesting? - there's no such company as 'Technika', it's a just a badge used by Tesco on cheap gear they buy in. The customer number is just Tesco, and there's no spares or service organisation behind it.

If the sets go faulty, you take them back to Tesco, where they replace or refund - even over 12 months old, as they are in breach of the SOGA by not providing spares and service.

This is where the emails have come from:
UMC-UK – Technical Support.

Interesting info about none provision of spares and service - I'll mention that.

It's a Tesco branded set, Tesco have no spares or service - UMC might well have? (though I'm dubious about how good it might be ), but it doesn't say UMC on the front.

It does rather depend what parts are required though. Capacitors for instance don't need to be got from Tesco.

This is true, I have managed to have my TV repaired using parts that are commonly available. Cost less than 50 quid, picked up and delivered back to me, so I'm a happy bunny.
