I started a thread a while back where forum members could discuss their favourite console room and explain why. But looking through this website (which is just wonderful) made me realise there have been a few I really didn't like.

I think the one-off console room used for The Time Monster is famously disliked. But I can't say I'm too keen on the interior used for Season 13 either - no screen/scanner and a really weird door leading to the rest of the TARDIS (did we ever see how it actually opened?).

I also realised that the console used from The Five Doctors to the end of the classic series is incredibly busy. I really liked it when it was first introduced but now I think I prefer the old style console.

I also really never took to the original TARDIS interior used for Matt Smith's Doctor which for me (again) was just too busy. I do like the current version though.

Anyway, here's your chance to vent: which TARDIS interior/console room did you really dislike?

I have genuinely liked each of them to some degree. I suppode my least fave was matt smiths first one though - dont get me wrong, I like it, quite a lot - I like how big it felt, but it was all to busy and packed with little things, - which I get that some people may like, but I am not the biggest fan of that style. Favourite would be the "steampunk" esque room used by tom baker for a brief period or the 9th/10th doctors tardises, the so called "coral theme" - I just loved how worn, weathered, and big it all was.

actually, looking at that website, I wasnt a big fan of tom bakers season 13 one - the tardis rooms had always been basic up to that point, but I found it too sparse.

I know I'll be in a minority but absolutely detest the Wooden Console Room from Season 14 of Classic Who.

At that point it was so radically different from what came before it just seemed to have gone away from the basic console room design. At least in the New Series it felt like the essence of the old console room was still there. This didn't and I was glad they went back to the basic design come Season 15.

I will agree that the Console Room as seen in The Time Monster is crap. Glad it only lasted one story. There seemed to have been a big issue with console room consistency during Pertwee's Time as The Doctor for some reason, especially with the location of the scanner.

In the New Series I didn't like the first console room the Eleventh Doctor had much either. Far too much packed into it and it didn't work. Again, I know I'll be a minority but what's new? (Do like the current design though)

Looking at the linked site if I am honest my favourite interior and exterior is the Eccleston/Tennant era. That Tardis always seemed alive rather than a machine.

Could never make my mind up about Matt Smiths first one. I looked nice when given different, sometimes darker lighting. But It always seemed too busy and Willy Wonker.

The new one is ok, nothing great but nothing awful.

Favourite classic one. Pertwee's second.
Davisons one is pretty dodgy. Casio springs to mind.

I never liked the interior of the tardis from the 7th/8th doctors in the movie. I think it was the USA film production that ruined it.

My least favourite has to be the wooden one seen in The Hand of Fear and The Robots of Death, from 1976 and 1977.

The first Pertwee one is my least favourite. Not really fit for colour tv with it's green tint, and a bit gloomy. Rather looks like it needs a good scrub. I love the season 13 version. I think it looks great in the Pyramids of Mars.

Another vote for The Time Monster. Maybe the TARDIS had too much time,ahem, on her hands at this point so kept redecorating to keep herself occupied!

I think it looked at it's most ragged in Warrior's Gate, particularly at the end....the time rotor certainly looked like it was about to pack in at any moment.

Not a big admirer of the story, but IMO the McGann console room was lovely. But my favourite is probably the first. That reveal in An Uneartly Child never fails to give me chills.

I like it, could give it a good rub with some Pledge. I hate the McGann one. It seemed to me to belong more to a Buffy the Vampire Slayer type program.

The Denys Fisher one. Every time I span the Tardis Light the cheap cardboard interior used to come away from the base. Really annoying!

Hah! That was atrocious wasn't it? But it still had a feel of the "mad Professor' which was what he was I suppose.

I hated that wooden console room - it was bland and ,well, wooden!! Not even a proper exit door !! Glad it warped behind the scenes!!

McGann's Tardis was a bit OTT too! What were those bats about?? And that gothic-feel to it was a bit too creepy for my liking - not nice at all.

I quite approve of Matt Smith's latest design.....it's more to my taste: A touch of the classic Hartnell-design, with a few added machines on the side!

PS: Why did William's Tardis gradually get smaller on the inside......? Budget??

Hard to say of Classic Who since I haven't seen that much.
I actually really liked the wooden TARDIS.
I guess the Jon Pertwee one where its a lab with all the round plates on the wall.

In New Who, I'm not too keen on Matt Smith's new Console room when it's dark. When its well lit, it looks great.

And while I liked his first one, its got a bit too much going on. I remember its broad look, but not much of the layout.
Can't really say any of them are my least favourite. I like them all.

I'd give that Wooden Console Room more than Pledge, a hacksaw would be more appropriate.....

I did like the McGann TARDIS, though maybe it was a bit too big.

I also liked the original console room, shame they did downgrade it and we lost some interesting stuff like the Fault Locator etc.

TBH I think that the producer had got sick of that console 'column' not going up and down properly! And introduced the crappy wooden one which did NOTHING!
Thankfully, they reverted back to the original style!

I also hated the fact that they had 'flat walls' - as in wall-paper! to cover up so many scenes in the Tardis! This was so obvious - even as a 6-year-old child! Those black & white circles on the wall were soooo obviously a back-drop!! And the gaps and spaces between corners of walls were so OBVIOUS!
LOVED IT anyway!!!

Back to topic - Hated the wooden version! Silly church-style windows and NO DOORS!

The one that I didn't care for was the War Doctor's TARDIS. It had such a jury-rigged look with all those cables running around on the floor and overhead. It was hard to believe that the TARDIS reconfiguration circuits couldn't installed the cables inside the floors or the overheads better than that. I can understand alt-routing of circuits, but you would and could have them installed through bulkheads already.

I am looking forward to seeing the new TARDIS. The teaser clips and photos with the golden look of the TARDIS really makes it look very good. The wooden trim looks very nice with the golden glow. Gives it a very organic feel.

I was never that keen on 9 / 10's TARDIS control room.

I think Four's secondary console room is hideous.

9...10 and 11s are all so wrong.

Matt Smiths first one.

I really liked 9 & 10's Control rooms. The Coral layout that 10 used always seemd alive to me, very WHO, if you know what I mean.
The wooden one looks terrible though. then again i've not seen alot of classic who to comment really.

I'd forgotten about the Peter Cushing movies. It was a very strange TARDIS by comparison.

The exterior was much more like a genuine Police Box at the time. I am sure Steven Moffat said he really liked the look of the movie Police Box and this is what the current model of the TV TARDIS exterior is modelled on (from 'The Eleventh Hour' onwards).

I think the only big difference for the TARDIS exterior in the movie is that the doors opened outwards, like on a genuine Police Box.

The inside, I think, was just a single room and much more like a scientist's lab (remember, in the movies the Doctor was a human scientist not a time lord). Its the first time, however, that the Police Box doors were visible from the inside - something else copied by New Who. Although I think in the movies, people could peer into the console room through the Police Box windows, which was really creepy.

So in a way, the current TARDIS (inside and out) has quite a bit in common with the Peter Cushing model.

That said, I really don't like the Peter Cushing interior at all.

The one from Inferno - with the control room taken out of the TARDIS and the horrible brick walls from the shed, looked cheap and tacky.
