Thomas, I hear their engraving "Argentina" into the World Cup Trophy as we speak.

James Rodriguez has 6, Mueller 5 and Messi 4.

Yes, I hope so for the final. From the start, given the very modest Brazil and Argentina teams - by their standards - I thought this was the best chance for a European country to win the world cup in South America. I think it would be very fitting if that was Germany.

I hope the result is the same, a German win.

Argentina do not look like World Cup finalists, the Germans after last night do.

I was expecting Argentina to have gone out by now, and my thread about them to have been bumped and trolled. It still lives.

I know, hence why I said Messi trails behind Muller for the golden boot. With a game to play as well, Muller has a good chance imo.

Its the confirmation bias. People already think he's arguably the greatest of all time, so they'll see anything half decent he does as proof of their opinion. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of messi, but I have to say that he's not been that good in this world cup. Apart from the few long range goals he's scored, he's actually been quite average. But to put that into context, the majority of the other top players have been similarly underwhelming as well.

True but they have been in three World Cup finals, as opposed to England's one.

Plus they have won the European Championships, which England has never done.

Very true. I do find it quite funny every time Messi plays a rather standard pass, and it gets every superlative thrown at it under the sun.

Argentina are going to need a miracle to win the final if they play like that again.

You get nowt for second place runner up ....... at least England have won the WC.

But England won the 'Daddy' of them all.

Hell I'm Welsh, I shouldn't care this much!!! I don't recollect us even getting to the finals.

The self declared 'best pass of the tournament' against Belgium, I'm sure we could pick out some of the German passes last night or Holland passes against Spain ripping them up.

Unless I have a big chamge of heart, or memory loss, I want Germany to win the final.

I was impressed with Dirk Kuyt's penalty.
It was the first time he'd kicked the ball forwards, all evening.

Fell asleep and missed most of the 2nd half. A more predictable result, by the looks of it. I was optimistic hoping for goals.

I can think of many players who were better than Messi.

Unfortunately we live in the age of hype where everything is the best of all time.

He's really not that special at all.

Every time I see Messi play I'm waiting to see this supposedly god-like player do something that makes him even slightly worthy of the hype he gets... and I've yet to see it.

I really don't see what the fuss is about.

You didn't miss anything at all.

Absolutely shite game between two teams who don't know how to break down a resolute defence.

Has scored some decent goals, and a couple of decent runs / passes in previous games but that really is about it, he had his weakest game tonight for sure, it was the time to really step up, but for me he did not.

What? Did your TV blow up in 1990? I wish mine had. I've tried to erase it from my memory, but have only got as far as the teams who played. Hopefully it wasn't Argentina and Germany.

I forgot he was on the pitch tonight.

All I remember is a couple of shit free kicks - one of which went sailing miles over everyone's head and straight out of play.

This business about a European team never winning in South America is one of those stupid stats that has taken on a life of of it's own. There have only ever been four previous World cups held in South America and only three of those have been held since World War 2. Only two South American tournaments have been held since transatlantic air travel was feasible. Colombia had to pull out in 1986, so Mexico stepped in for their second tournament as last-minute replacements.. However Mexico is not in South America.

I hope Rodrigues gets it to be honest- most exciting attacking player at the WC this year (out of the one's in contention for the Golden Boot anyway)

Fell asleep during extra time, woke up to see Argentina celebrating.

Apparently I didn't miss much.
