This whole World Cup has been fantastic to watch, if you're a football fan it's great, if you're not, well it's only once every 4 years.

I was in Mallorca for the group games, and watched pretty much every game. great atmosphere and a alot of fun. The World Cup brings all kinds of fans together.

The whole thing has been a joy. I'm going to miss this after next week. It fills the gap between the league season as well.

What does everyone else think of World Cup 2014 as a whole so far?

You will no doubt get some comments claiming it's not been that good and is being overhyped but I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I have been watching World Cups since 1974 and this is certainly one of the best for all round drama and entertainment.
As a Celtic fan, it fills the close-season perfectly. WC final next Sunday, Celtic in CL qualifying action the following Tuesday!

It's been a great WC for the underdogs. Decent attacking football, but I have to say that the "big" teams......Argentina, Germany, Holland, Brazil have all been disappointing (Holland v Spain aside). They need to step it up.

As a whole it's been disappointing. The group stage was very enjoyable but it's went downhill since. Some decent games and moments in the second round but all four QF's were very boring games. If the semi's and final are the same then overall it will have been a very average World Cup with average teams since it's the great matches in the knockout rounds that are remembered. All of the big nations have lacked quality.

Chile, Algeria, Columbia, Costa Rica & Nigeria have been excellent. Just fell short at the end.
Argentina, Holland & Brazil have been dissapointing like RotMojo said. They've gotten through somehow though.

Spain, England, Italy & Uraguay had a really tough time.

Team or the World Cup for me would be either, Chile or Columbia.

I thought Argentina showed a lot of quality against Belgium. A team doesn't have to score 5 goals to win decisively. Argentina completely stifled Belgium's game and Messi played great.

The Holland v Costa Rica game was also good for drama.

The other two quarter finals weren't good, but I'm very pleased with the semi-finalists with 4 big football nations fighting for the title.

There's big difference though from being one of the best to being the definitive best which some pundits e.g. Alan Shearer were claiming before the QF's had even taken place, like there was no contest.

I would actually agree its been one of the better ones in recent memory, best of this century no doubt, close to my favourites of 94' and 98', but the best is subjective and depends on personal taste. It may have good SF's and a final yet so we'll wait and see.

I think with the demise of Spain and the failure of teams such as Germany and Argentina to fulfil their potential, has diminished the World Cup probably for good. We used to watch it to see the best football in the world and now it's just a bit of flag waving fun (or not for England!).

2006 was the best World Cup in my recent memory. Great football, Zidane and Pirlo at their very best, no refereeing scandals, beautiful semi-finals and an absolutely magnificent drama-filled final. The two best teams in the world with opposing styles of football at the top of their game fighting it out as if on a battle field. And in the end, Italy won. Just perfect

For me, 1982 will always be for me the definitive world cup - arguably the most exciting Brazilian team since 1970 full of flair, the bad guy turned good in Rossi, England hopes so high after a 27 second goal by Robbo (and ultimate flop!), Scotland almost reaching the second round until Hansen's cockup, Northern Ireland beating Spain in Spain, Algeria beating Germany but then denied by the Austro-German Anschluss... and Schumacher 's attack on Battiston not ending up with a German world cup win!

This 2014 World Cup has been great despite the big nations not quite delivering... the 'lesser nations' stepping up and putting the over-inflated egos of the likes of Italy and England in their place!

Argentina v Brazil for the final would be a great occasion... although Germany v Holland would be pretty tasty too! Maybe get Rudi Voeller and Frank Rijkaard to lead the teams out, and instead of tossing the coin, whoever can spit furthest

And 2006 is a good example of having the World Cup somewhere where the players can play to their very best, and not be restricted by the extreme temperatures

I am missing it already!!! I hate it when it gets to this stage in some ways, as less and less games are being played....I love it when there are 2-3 games a day!!!
Every four years!!! I shall miss it

At least we have an expanded Euro 2016 to look forward to in two year's time. 24 teams means a lot more matches and they're going to have a last 16 round of matches as well as quarter finals.
