Saw a little piece last night on the Beeb (half time?) where they were showing a few clips of what they say are Great Saves.
Well when a player kicks the ball straight at the keeper & it the bounces off him how is that a great save ?

It's not always as simple as a shot "hitting" the keeper. Yes he has to get in the way of it, but he also needs to stop it, and direct it properly (out of play or out of the area). That still takes some skill especially if it's been hit with power.

Mexico and Costa Rica keepers' values must have skyrocketed after this WC. Outside the obvious (Neuer), they have been the stars.

For me the top goalkeepers have been the Mexico keeper and the Algerian keeper plus Tim Howard.

In much the same way as a tap-in being a lot more than a simple finish for a forward, a goalkeeper has to be in position to make a save and anticipate the shot even if it looks as though it was hit straight at them.
