What are your favourite frozen chips ?
I love Aunt Bessies Homestyle chips. I buy them from Iceland.
They have a lovely crisp coating and a fluffy centre.

Aunt Bessies are my favourite too but not from Iceland as they're cheaper in Heron, and while I'm there I can buy Country Garden's Petit Pois, half the price and twice as nice as Birds Eye.

Smartprice (or equivalent) straight cut fry chips or french fries.

I only use frozen chips for takeaway type meals.

If I fancy chips i'll cook them from fresh in the deep fat fryer.

mcains & aunt bessies i don't actually like the taste of. Very dry.
Overpriced & you hardly get anything in a bag.
It is paying for the name but some people will never learn

We buy 10 bags a month - sainsburys basics at 65p so we only spend £6.50 a month.
However the equivalent for the branded ones are from sainsburys to keep it from one store.
£1.75 for mcains so 10 is £17.50
£2.20 for aunt bessies is £22.
I know we buy more chips & month than most however paying £11 & £15.0 more for chips i wouldnt like anyway is shocking.

Whether nice or not that much inflation for being a brand is disgusting.
We could never afford to buy goods like that & even if we had the money i wouldn't want to waste it on those anyway when the cheap chips taste lovely as well. I wouldnt want to line those companies pockets when they charge that much. They shouldn't be charging that much frankly.
Even in places like farmfoods & iceland as mentioned it is still more than they are worth.

I am going on a rant apologies , I see it as people getting ripped off. No shame in buying cheaper none branded things. Birds eye don't get me started on them.

As much as i like the basics i will admit the co-op own chips at £1.09 are my faves. However we only get one or two bags when we run out of the others.

Another vote for Aunt Bessies Homestyle. I like to cook unfrozen, generous sprinkle of salt and pepper then 20-25 minutes in the oven. Easily the best oven chips i have had.

How many of you are there? That seems a lot of chips.

I'm not a fan of oven chips myself, they never taste anywhere near as good as proper chips or any other form of homemade potato accompaniment. I'll have a bag in the freezer but they're for absolute emergencies. If I really can't be bothered to make chips in the fryer I'll make potato wedges (you don't even have to peel them then!).

I often think you can judge pub food by it's chips too. Anywhere that serves oven chips should be avoided.

Sainsbury own brand French Fries

I do them in a chip pan rather than the oven..........but I generally only have them at Christmas for a treat

I've tried McCain's and Aunt Bessie's but find both to be dry.

Our favourites are Asda 'Chosen By You' crinkle cut oven chips, they're lovely, not dry at all. The straight cut ones are rubbish though.

I was going to ask the same about the amount.
I like my chips but buy a bag of frozen every month or two.

I also started a thread about restaurants who use frozen/oven chips.

I commented on that thread at the time. For me there's no excuse for places to do poor chips. There's a steakhouse near us that do nice steaks but everything else is poor. Rubbish frozen/oven chips and frozen desserts too. It's a deal breaker for me.

There's a nice little pub in my home town that does fantastic chips. They've actually got a dedicated chip butty menu that contains around 12 different chip butties.

I buy one bag of frozen chips every couple of months (there are only two of us).

I have tried all the branded makes, but i'm not keen. I generally stick to Tesco's own crinkle cut chips. Cheap and quite tasty.

When I first married I had a deep fat fryer. One that sat on the gas ring (I once set fire to my dressing gown once whilst frying chips). I then got a proper plug in jobbie, but in the last 15yrs I have only ever used oven chips. No where near as nice but better for you and safer (especially when cooking in a dressing gown)

Bread, butter, chips !
They do all sorts and regularly change the menu so they do far more than 12 (it's just 12 at any one time). They go from the basic just chips or chips and onion gravy through to bigger ones that have things like a fried egg, black pudding and brown sauce or pork, stuffing and crackling or homemade meatballs and tomato sauce. At one point they had one with chips, bacon, stilton and chocolate, I never got round to trying that though!
They're cracking chips though and all the extras such as meatballs and sauces are homemade too.

McCain`s or Bessies Home Chips. Once you`ve had these chips coated with a batter you can`t go back to the cheap rubbish. Crinkle cut rule but I can rarely find them in-store. McCain French Fries are the best fries, fast-food restaurant quality IMO.

Try to avoid chips (or anything) made with palm oil as they rip down Orang-Utan habitats for planting.
