Wouldn't that have been great ?

A semi final with Argentina, to play either Brazil or Germany in the final.

If only we weren't that little but unlucky.

I would much rather have seen Italy in the semi-finals. It's almost criminal we won't see Pirlo play for Italy again. The best and coolest midfielder of our time.

On a side note, you wouldn't believe how spoiled the German public is and they continue to criticise Low relentlessly despite playing in 4 consecutive semi-finals in the past 4 major tournaments under his leadership. Would be nice for England to be that spoiled

Better than Zidane?

Uhhh... difficult because they were so different. Zidane was spectacular and I would not hesitate to list him alongside Pele and Maradona, but Pirlo had the ability to control a game without moving from the spot. Pirlo's eye for a pass cannot be rivaled.

The 2006 WC final was such a treat because both Zidane and Pirlo were at their best. I don't think we will be treated to such a final anytime soon.

Frank Lampard would have had to sell his centre court ticket to Wimbledon on Saturday

Considering how poor the football's been, with a bit of luck England could well have been there.

You say Imagine. But I just can't. It might be me just being negative towards my own country, but I Just couldn't see us beating many teams at this world cup with the way we play.

By some miracle of miracles it did happen..Nope sorry I just can't..we were crap in 2010 & seem to have gone backwards 4 years later.

It would give the country such a huge lift though if we did.

If only eh?

I can only remember us being in 1 semi in my lifetime as football fan.

Too young to remember 1990.

It is a sad state of affairs when you put it like that!

With all due respect it was a case of thinking if only seeing Costa Rica and Greece play each other but fair play to them for performing well.

Colombia would have beaten us..

lol in fairness there was quite a bit of complaining about Sven when he got us to those quarter finals? I guess it is to do with expectations.

There would be an immense amount of fiery rhetoric for that draw. Loads of replays of Becks being sent off as well as a tiresome amount of references to the Falklands.

I couldn`t agree more, still he does have a World Cup winners medal and he did reach the Euro 2012 Final.

Yes, I'm so glad Pirlo is a World champion. He was also the man of the tournament at Euro 2012 and it's such a shame Italy were tired by the time the final came along

What are the chances of Pirlo being persuaded to come back for Euro 2016? I can't see Italy being able to replace him anytime soon. He is an absolute genius and no one can be as cool as Mr Pirlo no matter how much they try.

On a side note, what a team that 2006 Italy team was! Pirlo, Cannavaro, Totti, Del Piero etc. I don't think I have ever seen a better defender in my lifetime than Cannavaro at the 2006 World Cup. His performance in the semi final against Germany and in the final against France must go into the history books.

I'm 45 and seen one Semi Final in the World Cup and one in the Euro's.

We haven't even reached a final, safe to say we aren't exactly the world power in the game we are built up to be.

Depressing thought but I doubt I'll ever see us win something.

Yes, I agree with you here.

Groups stages is as good as it will get for England in the future I fear.

There is no way England would have got to the semi finals. I have said it before, we play a style of footballer that is antique.

I think it should be just like in school and everybody gets a medal for turning up. Don't want to hurt anybody's feelings.

Hey I thought we were in the Group of Death. Even the winners got knocked out at the last 8.

No chance

I don't want to go through England getting hammered by Germany, by about 10 goals

No thank you
