Of all the US chatshow hosts, Conan is my favourite because his humour is very dry and sarcastic. Plus he doesn't mind taking the mickey out of himself all the time. The opening sketch with the transexual from OITNB was funny.

One edit that I think would be welcome for the UK version of the broadcast on truTV, would be for
any strong language to be unbleeped. Any swearwords stronger than "s**t" are usually bleeped out of the original broadcasts on TBS, such as when a guest drops an F bomb. That’s why The Daily Show still has its swearing bleeped on Comedy Central Extra here in the UK, despite being broadcast at 1am. But I’m quite happy getting the US broadcast version if it means we get it less than 24 hours after the US. |

Unfortunately it’s unlikely. Due to truTV broadcasting shows on less than a 24 hour delay from the US, I suspect they are simply recording a live feed (or receiving a copy) of the US broadcast.

Conan's tribute to the 12 murdered in Paris was heartfelt and genuine.
I'm becoming a fan of the weirdo one. |

I'm becoming a fan of the weirdo one. I’m not surprised either, current affairs satire is a staple in these sorts of programmes, as it is in such print media. I’m glad they had the courage to respond to the events. |

Always record this, but have TruTV skipped an episode? Was looking forward to Anna Faris, watched the episode shown on the 5th January in the US featuring Courtney Cox and the episode on the 7th with Elizabeth Banks.
Is it me, or was the 6th January episode missed. |

Occasionally TruTV have technical difficulties getting the show from the US (they broadcast it less then 24 hours after the US) so have to broadcast a recent episode instead. I think that's what happened on 5/01 as they broadcast an episode from right before Christmas instead of a new one.

I think TruTV had issues with the show that aired in the US on Wednesday last week (21st) too, as they aired a repeat on Thursday night in the UK.
I think this is the 3rd or 4th time I’ve seen it happen. Its good that they sometimes show the missed episodes on Friday, but they don’t appear in the EPG or on the series link. They need to get their technical issues sorted, CNBC seem to have no problem airing ‘The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon’ less than 24 hours after the US. And they (sadly) get it edited down to 30 minutes in time for broadcast too. |

It looks like Conan might just be the next late night talk show to be dropped from UK television... it moves to a new 1am time slot from next week.
Even if Tru TV are getting the show for free or extremely cheap (due to both being owned by Turner Television), I doubt they will continue with it once their 1 year contract expires in August due to the time and effort it must take them to get it on the air over here (when compared to their other programming). |

Really? Damn. It's my favourite US chat show.
I actually achieved a bit of a life goal going to a taping in LA last summer. The good news is that it has a big online presence, so should TruTV drop it, it's quite easy to still watch it. |

Me too. I watch most of the US chat shows but I still consider Conan my favourite, maybe because I've watched it almost every week since I started watching it in 1997.

Me too. Plus a taping of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno in Burbank and Letterman last year. I don't like Jimmy Fallon at all. I don't find him remotely funny.
![]() Although I can’t agree about Jay Leno. I never found him that funny, then after the whole Leno/Conan Tonight Show debacle I completely lost any little interested I had in him. And I don’t agree about Jimmy Fallon either, in fact last October I went to New York to attend a recording of The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, which was great. Each to their own I guess. ![]() ![]() I do agree about Letterman though. I think he’s been ‘phoning it in’ for a few years now, but there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s an legend in the world of late night television. |

I noticed as well that it's been shifted to 1:00 am which isn't a good sign. It's a shame as I've always wanted to see his show and now it seems it won't be with us for much longer.

Having said that, if they are getting it cheap or free (which they must be as it’s all the same parent company) there is a small chance it’ll continue. Comedy Central put in the time/effort/money for The Daily Show (which airs at 1am and not even on their flagship channel), and CNBC has aired The Tonight Show for years (and they not only have to receive it, they then edit a 40min show to a 28min every day which is even more effort for little payoff). But as I’ve previously said, Conan has an strong online presence meaning you can watch almost all of every episode (via Team CoCo and YouTube websites) without even venturing into illegal download territory, albeit in clip form. And Conan’s contract with TBS runs until the end of 2018, so he’s not going anywhere for a while. |

Would be a shame if Conan was axed as it is the only programme on Trutv that I watch.

Although Conan's disappearance from UK screens is merely a supposition at this stage, if he does go, it will prove yet again that late night US chat shows just do not seem to work over here. God knows, enough channels tried to make Letterman a success and now Conan. It's strange that such a successful format in US television can't translate. Even our rare attempts at replicating the idea (such as The Jack Docherty Show) didn't work either.

While I really enjoy the late night talk shows myself, I agree that they are never a success in the UK.
I think this is for a number of reasons, but mainly due to a lot of the guests being unknown by the average viewer and the time/effort required from the broadcaster to get it on the air every day. It should be noted though that CNBC has been airing The Tonight Show with Jay Leno/Conan O’Brien/Jimmy Fallon for over 15 years in the UK. I know it’s essentially used as ‘filler’ and is from the same parent company (so they’re getting it cheap/free) but it still requires them to receive and edit it every day so they must be happy to keep broadcasting it. The TruTV/Conan situation is very similar, but I suspect TruTV won’t be happy to do the same once their current contract ends. It’ll be interesting if any UK broadcaster gives ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’ a chance when it starts later this month. Even in terms of British late night talk shows we seem to prefer them weekly, rather than daily. The most recent daily late night talk shows to have been attempted were probably Johnny Vaughn Tonight (BBC One) and V Graham Norton (Channel 4). Both were about 10 years ago now, and both weren’t successful. |

Conan starts on TCM from Monday 16th March at 1:05am (which is technically 17th March) accoring to Digiguide and the TCM website, and continues each day at about the same time (depending on what time the film before ends).
This means it'll almost be simulcasting the programme with TruTV. Seems a bit strange to me. |
