What, in your opinion, would be the best possible ending for all the soaps?

Would there be a disaster?

Neighbours - Harold and Lou die in a car crash. As they die, they have visions of all the dead people they know, Madge comes for Harold and Cheryl comes to Lou, and Julie Martin scoffs that Lou should have been watching the road, and Jim reassures her it was an accident.

Their bodies are found and almost every ex resident returns to their funerals, but they try to make it as happy as possible, Henry does a strip for charity, Mrs Mangle has too much wine, Karl, Georgia, Ty, and Rachel perform a song, Shelia perves on Henry, Paul and Terese squabble about the pricing for hiring the function room, Josh and Amber get together then break up again 5 minutes later after she gets jealous of him chatting to Sarah Beaumont.

At the end a new family moves in and as they start unloading boxes a surprise appearance from Scott and Charlene happens and they say "Thanks for Coming to Ramsay Street, I'm sure your stay here will be very interesting indeed"

end credits

For me

Coronation Street:

The final couple of weeks of the soap would be on nightly- Monday to Friday for 2 weeks. It would centre around them being told the street was being knocked down to build a shopping centre.

Ep 1/10- The residents of the street are called to a council building to be told the knocking down will take place in two weeks time. They begin to get distraught.
Ep 2/10- The residents protest and ongoing storylines start to come to an end.
Ep 3/10- Protesting and storylines coming to an end aswell as a baby being born.
Ep 4/10- During the protesting, somebody is accidentally killed. The street all agree to cover this up.
Ep 5-9- These 5 episodes would centre around all the residents being sat in the rovers sharing their plans for the future. We would then see montages of the characters time on the street aswell as clips of what their future be holds. This could be death, marriage, business etc.
Ep 10- The street hold a party to say their goodbyes. A long term character (Ken/Rita/Emily/Gail/Sally/Deirdre/Liz/Roy?) makes a speech and we see the characters saying goodbye to each other, as we do, we hear and see famous clips or sayings of the shows past. The last lines are all the characters saying goodbye coronation street.

If Corrie ever ended it should be a simple episode in the Rovers. No stunts or big effects

I like the idea of soaps just ending naturally and without everyone getting a neat little happily ever after. Give some characters the ending they deserve, but leave some or most where they are left off. If a poor family suddenly win the lottery in the last episode it just seems forced. As they say, life goes on. The last episode could be just like any other, perhaps with a little bit more nostalgia or a sense of conclusion than you would typically find.

Oh, and Eastenders kind of has to finish with a big unresolved "duff duff" moment. That's surely a given!

Linda opens the shower curtains thinking Mick is in there, then the character turns around.

Its Dirty Den...

"Pass me the soap would you love"

duff duff

Thats pretty much how Brookside ended.
I think a zombie apocalypse would work brilliantly as an end for Hollyoaks. Just totally out there and bizarre

90's soap Canary Wharf ended with aliens taking away the building that the show was set in. The Colbys also ended with an alien abduction.

Ending a show well is a hard thing to do especially with a soap which is supposed to be the never ending story of people's lives. Sons and Daughters did it well when its final episode mirrored it's very first episode with the birth of twins, suggesting that the story would just continue on.

Although it's not the cheeriest ending, I think this would work well on Corrie or EE. The show's longest serving or lynchpin character (Ken/Rita/Emily or Dot/Ian/Phil/Sharon) dies and the final scene is their hearse being driven slowly out of the street or square with characters past and present walking behind it as the camera pulls out to an aerial shot signifying not only the death of the character but the death of the show. While some people hate them, I'm also a fan of cliffhanger endings where it's left up to the viewers imagination to decide what became of their favourite characters.

Home and Away

Alf dies and Summer Bay residents past and present gather to say goodbye to a pillar of the community and great-grandson of the town's founder.

The final scene would be Sally walking along the beach at sunset and noticing two figures fishing, a man and a woman. The figures look like Alf & Ailsa. Sally smiles then walks up the sand dune towards the surf club as the camera pans to the sun setting over the ocean and an empty beach.

That's a really nice and fitting idea to end H&A. I'm not massively keen on very final endings like when they closed Brookside Close for demolition or when Wandin Valley was burned in a bush fire in A Country Practice. I like when you're left thinking that the characters continue to live on where they always have.

Here's a link to a thread I started a while ago which has links to the final episodes of British, Aussie and American soaps. Some are good, some are bad & some are just plain awful. http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...951&highlight=

I think you should be left with the feeling that no matter what that life will continue, just off screen

Spooky, I saw this thread and came into post about Alf's funeral!! My ending would be after the funeral, Sally realises Summer Bay is her home and finally moves back. Putting hers and Lil Pip's photo on the mantle piece just as the end credits play one final time....

I like endings where things just carry on. As far as we know Sun Hill nick is still very much open for business! The ending of The Bill was just right no huge dramatic ending, just a feeling that everything would carry on without us.
