There's more stories to be created outside these two storylines surely!!

I like them when they're unpredictable and shown to have a proper effect rather than a bit of fervent fumbling.

I love an affair plot when the chemistry is right between the pair, hate couples just thrown together. It's the bread and butter of soaps.

Agree OP. EE ought to be done with them for at least 5 years with the amount of cheating going on under Berkwood.

Neighbours went 10 years 5 episodes a week with 2 affairs. Yes it can be done!

They're getting tedious, and most often are not done with the right characters e.g. Kat/Derek EE, Tina/Peter CS

I think the worst affair storyline was Pat and Patrick in EE.
Totally agree OP . |

They've been done too much. I don't know, perhaps they can find an original way to approach an affair, like perhaps make it part of a paraphilia storyline
, but they are way overdone.

Completely agree, I can't remember an affair in the last 5 years that was slightly interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat. I could handle one affair a year if there is chemistry and it's not just two random characters.
Enough of the one night stands and love triangles too. |

These days they are just tedious. Chemistry helps but it's pointless if the story line isn't gripping enough. More often than not, soap affairs are contrived and cringeworthy.
I can only think of a few that viewers have welcomed. |

Affairs can be good. Deirdre and Mike is still held up as one of Coronation Street's best storylines.

The last affair plot that I found interesting was Stax. Stacey didn't have that paternal figure in her life, and it was interesting to see the relationship with Max develop. Also, a good plot element for me was Tanya, who was originally 'the other woman' in Max's life.
It all got a bit much with Stacey's exit and Max's 'I loves ya, Stace' and then all their recent stuff earlier this year, but up to, and including the Xmas day reveal, I thought it was well played. |
