I agree, you don't see England do that sort of thing, we always give the under-dogs a chance. A true gentleman doesnt rub his opponent's nose in it or celebrate like some of these Johnny Foreigners.
But most of these countries are greedy anyway, how many more times do Brazil want to win the WC ? We are perfectly satisfied with winning just the once all those years ago and giving other teams a chance. That’s an edict I’ve lived by all my life and that’s why our 1966 World Cup victory has always bothered me greatly; coming so soon as it did after the ...the er’..... the thing we shouldn’t mention. I personally would have been far happier if that final had ended in a draw after extra-time and we’d lost, inevitably, on penalties; (well, the toss of a coin as it was in those days). We would have been able to applaud the victorious team with a clear conscience and a song in our hearts. As it was, we had to sheepishly cheer-on Bobby Moore and the boys as though our ‘hollow victory’ actually meant something; the inner-turmoil felt by all true Englishmen that day was almost too much to bear. What occurred in that final of ’66 was just not cricket. However, Germanys merciless pounding of Brazil has finally redressed the balance. Possibly, even they went too far by deliberately allowing Oscars ‘consolation’ goal. Our Teutonic neighbours, a wonderfully polite people, are not usually noted for their sarcasm. |

Argentina. As the poster said above those complaining about there performance know little about what makes a god team. Germany will not be able to bully Argentina the way they did Brazil.

Germany.
I'd love it if there were some Union Flag waving fans in the stadium, cheering them on. |

I'm Dutch and I support the same team as the vast majority of my fellow countrymen, the team that plays the most attractive football this world cup: COME ON GERMANY!

Plenty of them wanted a German - Dutch final. There is a lot of respect in The Netherlands towards the German team, and rightfully so. The hatred is a thing of the past.
My parents live in Germany and I have a lot of German friends. No one was supporting Holland I'm afraid. The Germans don't like the Dutch at all. |

Depends where in Germany you are, in plenty of areas they don't care about us or like us. I've been coming to the country regularly for the last 20+ years and have more German than Dutch friends so I know where I'm talking about.

Obviously the German-Dutch football rivalry is huge during football tournaments but definately not during the rest of the year. A majority of Germans wanted Argentina in the final. And let's be honest why that is... Germany winning against the Netherlands in a World Cup final would be the sweetest win imaginable, but Germany losing to the Netherlands in a World Cup final would be the worst thing that could happen. That's why people prefered Argentina, because losing to Argentina would be something they could get over... Mind, after the Argentina-Netherlands game I had this in my facebook feed. |

It was the same for Germany in 2010, they lost to Spain in the semi-final and so supported the Dutch in the final. |

That might have a lot to do with the Netherlands just losing to Argentina.

Maybe that plays a small part, but most people I know wanted Germany to win from the start (after us obviously, but pretty much the whole country was expecting a group stage exit). Also newspaper polls have shown a big majority preferring Germany to win it from the start.

Germany's second team has been the Netherlands since the round of 16, so the wish for a German-Dutch final was very much alive. The third team seems to have been the USA back then, probably the Klinsmann effect. |

In the centre of my lovely Dusseldorf there were a few Dutch fans just now wearing orange shirts. They had to walk through a procession of Germans chanting "Only binmen wear orange" for everyone who says the Germans don't mind the Dutch
