Optical Audio Cable

Would I be right in thinking that all Digital Optical Audio cables work basically the same no matter what the cost?
As in HDMI cables.

The basic requirement is to transport the light from source to destination without corruption. Provided they achieve that then the cost of the cable is irrelevant.

There may be a concern about the quality of the optical fibre in a really cheap and nasty cable but it should be fairly obvious if it is crap. Nothing subtle about the effects of a corrupt digital data stream!

I would also avoid some of the really thin cables you can find. I've know a few of those fracture if they are flexed a lot. And look out for cables with big heavy plug ends on them. Optical sockets are not the best designed on the planet and a heavy plug can easily fall out!

If you are not going to touch the cable then the cheap ones are fine,

My Poundland cable has been "running" now for years.
