Manic Street Preachers
I was listening to the Manic Street Preachers set at Glastonbury and I realised they are one of those bands that have done loads of songs that I recognise without knowing it was them!
Like the one about motorbikes with the wibbly guitar bit- I never realised that was theirs! They're better than I realised! |

Some really good stuff, however I find the singles from their albums post "Everything must go" a bit marmite. I would be interested to hear peoples opinions on the following albums.
"The Holy Bible" however is one of my favourite ever albums! |

With them being very local boys, I'm probably highly biased but they've been one of my favourite bands from a really young age. There are maybe only a handful of songs I like post-Know Your Enemy, but albums like Generation Terrorists and The Holy Bible are still as vital now as they were at their time of release.
I'm incredibly proud that they got out of our particular area of South Wales ex-mining towns, and that through songs like Design For Life they let the whole world hear what the heart of the Valleys sounds like. |

They haven't released a good song since 96 for me.

I came across another track of their called Elona Alone and every time I hear it, I still thing the intro's leading to 100 Years by The Cure. |

Was If you Tolerate This Then Your Children Will Be Next post 1996? That's one of my favourites, as is Your Love Alone Is Not Enough, but only when Nina Persson is part of the duet.
Your love alone is not enough, is fantastic, love Send away the tigers |

I was at T In The Park yesterday and they were absolutely brilliant. You do forget how good some of their stuff is.

Motown Junk still sends shivers down my spine after all these years. |

A good band but they do seemed to have mellowed a bit these days. |

I have 2 tattoos from their songs. The first three albums and then Journal for Plague Lovers, are amazing.
however after Richey Edwards departure they became a lot of dad rock, and they need to realise how old they are now |

I think their stuff from 92-98 is very consistent with a few incredible albums in there to boot. Then I think they tailed off quite drastically until 2009 with Journal For Plague Lovers which whilst not being their greatest work is a good album. The last three have all been decent too

They were consistently brilliant for a while but I haven't bought anything since Lifeblood. It all sounds rather predictable these days.
The Holy Bible is definitely in my all time top 20 albums though. |

With respect, I don't think that Futurology can be be be described as predictable, it's possibly the biggest change to their sound in their whole career.
The album has been universally praised and has got me thinking, has any other band received the best reviews of their career for their 12th album? |

The Manics have been hugely important to me over the years. It's great to see them so revitalised on both Rewind The Film and now Futurology. It's inevitable that bands lose that raw edge as they get older but the Manics have finally learned to grow up with these two records (just my opinion).
They already tried this with Lifeblood, but there wasn't enough good material on there and they were losing who they were. Futurology is firmly a Manics record and one they should be massively proud of. It's exactly how they should sound right at this moment. |

His disappearance was very strange, wasn't it? I'm not old enough to remember it happening as I'm only 22 but I've since heard a lot about it. It must be awful for his loved ones.

It happened on my older sister's 15th birthday, and she was/is the most obsessive Manics fan I know (especially of Richey), so that was particularly upsetting for her. She used to go to all their gigs, even in the very early days in Blackwood Miners' Institute, in feather boas and slogan t-shirts with armfuls of white roses to throw at his feet.
![]() I find disappearances fascinating. I know that he was legally announced dead a couple of years ago but I'd like to think that he's alive living somewhere.
