Booze 'antics' - really? Alcoholism is an illness and a dreadful addiction to try and over come.
Peter is far from perfect, he is a weak, selfish man who makes mistake after mistake and hurts his family and I have little or no sympathy for the infidelities and of course his alcoholism has adversely affected Simon but it is not a choice and certainly not an 'antic'. He does love simon and spend time with him which is more than many Dad's in Soap do. Ken just packed Peter and simon off to Scotland when their mother died and didn't get them back even when he married Janet.
Also, Lucy didn't give him a choice about keeping in contact with Simon when he was a baby after she moved to Australia and he did make a success of the Bookies as a livlihood for simon for several years.
