Haggling BT line rental saver
Hi all
Have anyone of you folks tried to haggle BT with their line rental saver price? Compared to the Post Office and Talk Talk, BT is just getting way to expensive. If you did get the price lowered, how did you do it and which department did you get through? Thanks in advance. |

Tried to lower the price for the line rental saver but they flat-out refused. Even though I threatened to go elsewhere, they still wouldn't budge.
Unfortunately I did renew my contract a few weeks ago and I guess I'm stuck with them for another year. In fact, the only reason I'm with them is because I can't see any other phone provider that gives you a call barring option.. i.e. giving you the facility to block national, international, mobile, or directory enquiry numbers. |

BT aren't really the haggling type are they, Sky are a little more flexible judging by some of the deals people on here get after chancing their arm.

The only thing I'm going have to sacrifice is the call barring feature. Maybe the amount I'll hopefully save will make up for any shortfall. |

I thought BT would do all they could to keep customers rather than losing them. In any case, once my contract's up, I'm probably going to go over to Plusnet since I've got my broadband with them.

Sky may give some deals to some customers on some products however they haven't offered a Line Rental Saver for some time now.
Plusnet still offer a Line Rental Saver but it means you must have a calls package otherwise weekend calls which are free with a basic monthly rental then become chargeable. The trend seems to be to keep broadband prices as low as possible at the expense of line rental charges - after all you can't have the former without the latter |

Was just looking at this.
Thinking (well, almost needing to get on fibre because the ADSL service is too slow - I get 10Mbps in a 14Mbps postcode, but I'm on a fixed profile to keep it stable) but wondered if the price we pay for broadband is being more than offset by the lumpy rises in line rental, which are way above inflation (like everything else)? With BT at present and it's looking like an 18 month contract (line rental saver sneakily at 12 months) so my question is; has anyone paid line rental saver for the first year and then renewed it for a second term - if you leave at the end of the 18 month contract, is line rental saver a renewal of your contract for the next 12 months on your current terms or if you chose to leave is the line rental paid back for the unused portion pro-rata? |

http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts /displayTopic.do?topicId=29984 (Click on 'The legal stuff'.) They probably wouldn't be allowed to charge the full amount for the rest of the contract if you were paying monthly and left, so it seems that Line Rental saver is just a sneaky, anti-competitive way of locking you in. |

I was out of contract when I left TalkTalk a couple of months ago and got £37 refund on my advance line rental payment for the 3 whole months that still had to run.
