Brazil have not produced entertaining sides for almost 30 years. Their wins since have mostly been functional with the odd sensational world class talent.
Without Neymar they don't have that player and the support cast is far weaker even than their previous. I have been happy with this World Cup and the efforts of other countries and the whole entertainment thing surrounding Brazil is a myth that exploded some time back. Neymar was the only really talented player, without him they completely fell to bits. They were not great with him either, but at least he could drag them through. Him and Ronaldo are pretty much having to carry very poor teams. |

It's all subjective, of course, but if we want to look at facts, Brazil actually achieved more than 28 of the 32 teams in this world cup, and whatever happens today they remain the only team to have won the world cup 5 times.
Ironically, their perceived humiliation at the end of this tournament will long be remembered precisely because they are seen as giants of the game. I think setbacks like this can be good in the long run, though, so long as Brazil channel the energy the right way. What better motivation can there be for the next world cups? A victory in 2018 or 2022 would taste so much sweeter after this. |

I agree, and to further the point, some other teams are now looking like exciting teams to watch. Mexico really shocked me, they were awesome to watch. Columbia are another, Germany of course, still plenty of the "old guard" and some new blood.

The Mexicans actually ran out of steam. It wasn't so much they chose to sit back.
The Dutch played a very clever game and found extra in the last 15 minutes. Though they left the equaliser very late I suspect their game plan was going to be little different unless they conceded a second goal. |
